Looking ahead to Oakland on Saturday

Post by JimmyZ11381 »

Does anybody have any thoughts on this road game. I don't quite know what to make of Oakland at this point. They have 2 wins against Adrian College and Eastern Michigan. The lost a very close one against Wisconsin-Green Bay, got blown out by Duquesne and only lost by 4 to #10 Michigan State.

So.....are they the team that lost by only 4 to Michigan State....or are they the team that lost by 15 to Duquesne. I don't know. I'll be curiously paying attention to their game tonight against #23 Xavier.

My only thoughts at this point is that the 4:00 PM tipoff leaves time for both a run to the microbrew & the casino :)

Tough to really gauge the quality of these teams this early in the year from record alone. Until I see them play, it's tough to say.

You might want to avoid downtown Detroit. With the Marathon MAC Football Championship kicking off at 11:00, it probably will be packed down there.

I don't think Duquense is as bad as you think. Oakland is solid and we'll have to play well to win.

Good Point...I guess I didn't really take a look at Duquesne. They are 5-0.
They haven't really played anybody yet, besides maybe Rice and Oakland, but 5-0 is 5-0.

To be 100% honest I don't know how good or bad the Dukes are either. I was just going on the notion that they finished fairly strong last year after implementing a new offense. They also had a strong recruiting class. Not to look ahead but that will be a fun game at Anderson.

Duquesne is a really athletic team. They have sucked for decades. This is their best start in many years. I am not sure who they have really beat.

The Dukes have their annual battle of Pittsburgh game with Pitt next week. It hasn't been much of a battle lately. They also play WVU. We will see how good they may be. It still should be a good game to see at AA.

Does Oakland still have Calvin Wooten? Hope not cuz he was good...we had some fun with him when the Golden Grizzlies were in BG a couple years ago and they put a whooping on the Falcons...he's a good guy and a great player.

I think Duquesne is solid but to be honest there A LOT of teams in the country that would be 5-0 with their schedule so far.

I remember Oakland Coach Greg Kampe as a Falcon. He was a lightning quick point guard on the basketball team and the punter on the football team. I am not sure if he still holds the BGSU record for longest punt at around 75 yards?

He was also my summer basketball camp counselor at Hoosier Basketball Camp in Angola, Indiana.

Ah, those were the days...sucks getting old!

Actually, the record for longest punt is 90-something yards from the 1920's... Macs Leitman, I believe.

EDIT (for proof I'm right...again. )... http://www.bgsusports.com/mambo/content/view/179/53/
