Ah. I realize why I never click these links.
A) The Miami(OH) reason is duplicated in the BG spot.
B) "Miami(OH) had nothing to play for." Tell them that when they're sitting at home this bowl season as a division champ.
Say what you will about head-to-head, I'll give ya that... they thumped us. But throw 'em on the field tomorrow and I bet BG gets it's revenge, no questions asked. By the same token, Ball State lost by 20 to CMU *at home*, with a last second TD that cut the lead from 27.
An "A" for effort... a "D-minus" for logic...though I probably would have agreed had I not read the reasons... BG/CMU/BSU/Miami(OH) are a jumble at the top for season-long performance, though I'd probably put the Falcons and Cardinals at the top looking at the last month of the season.

Re: Golden's Final MAC Power Ratings
Spots three and four seem to contain some redundancies. I can't argue with four too much, but I wonder if there would be a different outcome if MU and BG would play today versus last month.MACReport wrote:Brian Golden has posted his final power rankings for the 2007 MAC football season at MAC Report Online:

All in all, decent breakdown of the conference.

He said that BG has a tied conference record to Miami. Last I checked, BG has one more win than Miami.
And on a side note, Miami beat BG by a few less than 200.

Here's MY power rankings, let me know what you guys think:
1 ) CMU - Likely MAC Champions. They kind of get the top spot by default. They've got the best MAC record but really only had to play one tough team in conference (Ball State). Those slip ups versus North Dakota State and EMU don't look too good though.
2 ) Ball State - beat Navy, took Nebraska to the wire and hung with Illinois, won versus MAC teams under .500 and lost to teams with winning records
3 ) BGSU - beat Minnesota (who end up 1-11), hung with Michigan State, lost BAD to Boston College, but did finished season winning 4 straight, won versus MAC teams under .500 and lost to teams with winning records
4 ) Miami - have 2 impressive MAC wins, but will most likely end up under .500 and without a bowl
5 ) Buffalo - impressive turnaround and things will only get better
6 ) Ohio - always manage to lose a few they should win and win a few they should lose
7 ) WMU - win over Iowa bumps them up to this spot
8 ) Akron - Seemed to be in quite a few close games, but lost more than they won
9 ) Toledo - had a few blowouts against some bad teams
10 ) Temple - looking much better off than this time last season
12 ) EMU - beat CMU and gave a few teams a run for their money
11 ) Kent State - losing 7 straight to end the season earns them this spot
13 ) NIU - just a dreadful season, no getting around that

Yeah, Buffalo as MAC Champs. If they are even in contention with us and Miami next year I'd be stunned. If anything I'd say Temple is the team to watch out for to make a big move in 2008, not Buffalo.SicSic80 wrote:Ummmmmmm in spot # 5 - "Meet your 2008 MAC champs". I, for one, don't think so!!!!
Speaking of which, if you read a little farther down the column, Golden states that he expects Buffalo and Temple to go 1-2 in the East next year. Now I know that us Falcons of the world hate the Redhawks very much, but I think we can both agree that Golden is officially nuts on this one.

BGSU has a 6-2 MAC record, Miami has a 5-2 MAC record. I misread and thought that it said Conference record. My apologies. I guess I'm still not getting why BG has one more conference game that Miami.
I don't know about either Buffalo or Temple. However, they are both teams on the way up. I don't think that I would put them 1-2, but they are not the pushovers that they used to be.
I couldn't see the Buffalo game, but I do think that Temple will be interesting. If they can get some depth on their offensive line, they will cause a lot of problems for MAC defenses. It is pretty obvious that they are stacking their O-line with big dudes that make holes. MAC defenses are largely built to stop the spread, and aren't equipped to stop that style of offense. The reason we outlasted Temple, IMO, is because we outlasted them. They were tired by the end of the first half, and didn't recover much at halftime. If they can get some depth to rotate out and keep guys fresh...they could cause a lot of problems in the future.
Go Falcons!
