Just read on CFN that Rutgers has accepted an invite to the International bowl. It would be pretty cool to see BG play them after all the pub that Schiano and Rice got last year.
Is the conventional wisdom that Miami would need to win the MACC for us to go the International bowl?

I think it will either be Miami or Ball State in the I-Bowl.
If Purdue drops to the MCB, they'll likely play BG and CMU goes to Mobile. Ball State or Miami (if they win the MACC game) go to the I-Bowl.
If anyone but Purdue gets the MCB, CMU goes to the MCB. Then BG goes to Mobile and Ball State or Miami (again, if they win the MACC game) got to the I-Bowl.
I don't see us going to Toronto, but the way this crazy year has played out, who the heck knows?

I was rather hoping BG would make it to Toronto, because Toronto would be doable for me. Oh well. Contemplating the possibility was fun. A bowl game somewhere is better than none at all by a very long measure.

Rutgers looks really good tonight against Louisville's high school defense. Even though it looks unlikely, I want us to get an Int'l Bowl invite. I want to play the best possible opponent and Rutgers is certainly the toughest that we can get out the MAC-affiliated bowl games.Rollo83 wrote:Rutgers scares the hell out of me with our defense. 1. Motor City vs. CMU
2. (I forget the name) vs. Air Force
3. Humanitarian Bowl vs. Boise State
4. This one was really unlikely, but if there are a lot of upsets in the Pac-10, and VT-BC both get a BCS game instead of ASU, then Purdue could take one of the lower level PAC-10 bowl spots.
So is it really possible that my favorite team will be playing my current school in a bowl game?
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!

If Illinois makes it to a BCS bowl game -- with a Hawaii loss this weekend, or if Ohio State is elevated to the BCS championship game -- that would leave one 7-5 team for the Motor City Bowl to invite, and many seem to think that team would be Purdue.
If any other Big Ten team ends up in the Motor City, it would almost certainly be paired up with Central Michigan. But if its Purdue, Bowling Green could very well be the choice, in order to avoid a CMU-Purdue rematch.

Central Michigan is the only team absolutely guaranteed a bowl game right now. There is no scenario where they cannot go bowling. The MAC's contracts with the Motor City, GMAC and International bowls guarantee division winners will go to bowl games, At 7-5, the Chips also meet the NCAA bowl eligibility standards
Miami is also a division winner, but at 6-6, the RedHawks can only meet the NCAA bowl eligibility standard by winning Saturday. If they lose, they would be 6-7, and NCAA rules would prohibit them from being invited to a bowl game.
So this is the way it works out:
If Central Michigan wins Saturday, the MAC's three bowl teams will be Central Michigan, Bowling Green and Ball State. The conference would have no other teams that meet the NCAA's preferred bowl eligibility standard, which is at least seven wins and a winning record.
If Miami wins Saturday, then Central Michigan and Miami are guaranteed bowl games -- again, per the MAC's contracts with the games -- and the final invitation comes down to a beauty contest between Bowling Green (8-4) and Ball State (7-5).
It is widely assumed that Bowling Green is a prettier pick than Ball State, based, at least in some part, on the better overall record.
All this is a long-winded way of saying that the real question to be settled Saturday, besides the obvious MAC championship at stake, is whether Miami or Ball State get a bowl game. If Miami wins, they will get one. If they don't, Ball State will get one.
Either way, Central Michigan is in, guaranteed, and Bowling Green is widely believed to be in already by virtue of being a more attractive pick than Ball State.
As far as where the teams will be slotted? That's a bit murkier. 1987alum's speculation (above) strikes me as fairly well-reasoned, though.

There was some talk that a fourth MAC team might be able to find its way into a bowl game outside the MAC's three contracted games. But it doesn't appear there are quite enough games opening up for that to happen.
