AA needs to go, but I will definitely be there for the last game. It doesn't matter when it is or who were playing. What a special place to watch a basketball game and I hope the new convo center provides the electric atmosphere that AA has when it is packed.

 d00d,

They haven't even broken ground yet. We may be looking at a 2009 completion date at the EARLIEST.

I like your spunk, however.

Now that I'd like to see - a start date in early 2010 and a completion date in 2009 8)

I didn't read the article in it's entirety. The info I was working with had ground breaking late 2008 - which changed.

On a related note, bite me. :-D

I am going to miss AA greatly...lots of great memories there either cheering and jeering with the Sideline Squad or running on the court after awesome victories or getting tossed from the Kent game with less than 2 minutes to play or shooting the games for BG24 or watching Swordo bust Germaine's knee costing DD his job or packed houses for Volleyball...all that stuff is amazing and I hope they make the new Arena just as "High School-ish." Having the student section on the floor is freaking awesome and I hope things stay that way...and seriously, I want tickets to the final men's bball, women's bball and vball games at AA...I love that place.

In the master plan it was situated closer to the road on Wooster Street out by the parking lots, but I have also heard talks that it will be closer to the existing facilities such as the football stadium lately. Personally, I’d rather see it built closer to these other facilities than sitting by itself. I think placing it just outside of the south endzone of Perry Stadium with a pedestrian plaza in between would be awesome. By pedestrian plaza, I mean bricked opening/sidewalks, trees, benches, etc. It would not only close out the wide open end of the football stadium, but it would put the new facility closer to the Sebo Center, parking would already be in place, etc.
Honor Garden in between with BG greats:

The Hobie Baker award winners, Bernie Casey, Nate Thurmond, Doyt and Anderson, Tom Wottle, Howard Komives, Some ladies. Busts of all of them.

That's a great idea. You could even put in Tom's brother, Dave, who was a multiple All-American and Olympic Gold medal winner from BG. Or you could just stick with Tom.

And I'm all for the busts of some ladies. Are you thinking athletes or just some ladies' busts? Maybe some of the memorable ones from around campus when you were there?

I hope they don't put in parking.

Anyone hear anything in the plans for an athletic museum which should be about 10 times bigger than the one in AA? There is so much cool stuff in that little room and I know Coach Cochrane would love to see a new museum in his lifetime.

The better question is who is pony up the big bucks to get this project started. Im going to have to dig deep into my sources to find out... just have to get back to bg to pry this individual for info!

I'd think that a facility like Gonzaga's is more along the lines of what you are looking for.

ST article on "The Plan".....

Interesting thing of note here from the article on the new convo capacity. Although no seating capacity has been announced, the number is rumored to be no more than 5,500.
“I think we have a decent mix of academic and athletic enhancements,” Board President Mike Marsh said Friday night.
“I know we’ve scaled back the convo center more than some people would like to see, but we’re not going to be able to build a mini Schottenstein Center (Ohio State). It’s not in our universe.”

5500? That would be a huge mistake IMHO. We're supposed to be right around 5k capacity now with AA and we're aren't gonna build at least a 6 or 7k capacity seating? It better be bigger than 5500 , it doesn't need to the Schott but it needs to be bigger than what we've got now to plan for bigger things.

You're wrong.

This basketball program has never shown a need for greater capacity, and I doubt very seriously if it ever will. Building larger loses atmosphere and creates what we all hate about arenas like that of EMU.

5500 is perfect. A little larger than AA, but not much. We do not need a larger arena, we need a better one. This plan will fit that bill.
