Scott Thomas

Post by renorvis »

What's the deal with next year's commit Scott Thomas? I have search some of the recruiting services and can't find any info on him. I really don't anything about him by me being down here in Cincy. Do any of you guys farther up north know anything about him? What's his style of play, what other offers did he have and can he contribute next year with Ham leaving?

He's 6-6 or 6-7. I believe he average 24ppg as a junior.

Yeah, that lack of info on this kid is kinda weird. I don't know how you put up those kinda stats and not get noticed by somebody unless your playing in Div. 5 or 6.

Old article from soph yr.

"Six-five sophomore wing Scott Thomas is averaging 21.6 points and 8.2 rebounds for Buckeye Valley (7-3)."

"Scott grew up playing guard and handles the ball and shoots exceptionally well for a kid his size," Buckeye Valley coach Donovon Barrett said. "He?ll get physically stronger and he?s definitely not the type of kid who will be complacent. He really likes challenges."

Conference Stats from last year, Buckeye Valley is D2 at least last year, BTW. Check out whose name is listed on all the leading stat sheets.

ESPN recruiting info

Main thing is I've seen Thomas listed 6-6 to 6-7 and from all accounts plays 3. Sporting News in their preseason issue had him in the Honorable Mention All American category FWIW along with several other names.

Thanks guys! So I guess he could slide right in and contribute next season. That would be cool considering that we don't have to rush him because we have everyone coming back next year except Ham. If he can develop and contribute at the same time he would be a great contribution to the scoring punch we already have. If there is any more info keep it coming on Scott Thomas. And I will keep you guys posted on the Cincy commits Darren Goodson and Cortez Howell. Along with the two guys from Princeton High School here in the Nati.

Thomas is a flat out scorer. He will need to elevate his game defensively- like 99% of high school players- at BG. Get stronger etc tec. But he can shoot it, is agile, runs well and has played in pressure situations as his team's go to guy for a couple of seasons.

Go Falcons!

Thomas, a 6-6 forward, is a senior at Buckeye Valley High School. He averaged 24 points, nine rebounds and six assists per game en route to third-team All-Ohio honors last year, helping his team to a 17-5 mark. Thomas has surpassed 1,000 career points, 300 rebounds and 200 assists entering his senior season.

In this year's Sporting News Preview Magazine, Scott Thomas is listed in the Seniors Honorable Mention list for TSN's All-American Teams.

I noticed his name in my issue as well. Taking a look at the other All American lists in the magazine. It seems to project the top 300 seniors and the top 150 underclassmen after that.

Louisville has 3 of those underclassmen on one team, DuPont Manual and one of only two or three freshmen listed in the entire projection.

I have some family who knows his family (that's not conspicuous at all) and they said one of the reasons he's coming here is some of his family went here. He said his family always spoke highly of the education and fun they had here and he wanted to experience it too.

Actually, none of his family went to BGSU. His father graduated from The University of Findlay.

I coached track last spring at Buckeye Valley where Scott attends. I never met him personally, but did see him in person and he is a typical 6-7 kid. Built a little bigger than John Deibler from Upper Sandusky who plays at OSU. Scott also runs cross country in the fall, which is amazing for a kid his size. He ran track in the past, but did not run this past season. He is a good kid (3.0 plus) academically, and is well liked among his peers, which includes several who are attending BG now. BV is a high school of around 600 students, in a rural part of Delaware County. It is one of the largest school districts in the state. You may have heard of its most famous alumnae - 2003 British Open Champion and Kent State Graduate Ben Curtis.

BV hasn't always been known as a boys basketball power, but has solidly improved their program over the last couple of seasons. He is fortunate to play with several other tall players, which has allowed him to play at the small forward/guard position and develop the skills that he will need at BG.
