Wow, the worst paid coach in the country is Shane Montgomery of Miami, followed by Brady Hoke at Ball State, Doug Martin (Kent State), Steve Roberts (Arkansas State), David Elson (Western Kentucky), and then Gregg Brandon. I noticed that quite a few MAC schools pay less than $200,000 for their coaches.
MAC Coaches (Salary)
Shane Montgomery ($144,225)
Brady Hoke ($169,634)
Doug Martin ($170,000)
Gregg Brandon ($183,909)
Turner Gill ($190,700)
Jeff Genyk ($196,000)
J.D. Brookhart ($243,888)
Bill Cubit ($251,000)
Butch Jones ($265,850)
Frank Solich ($269,062)
Joe Novak ($305,136)
*Tom Amstutz ($315,000)
Temple didn't want to tell anybody how much they pay their coach.
*Amount does not include food stipend.

There is NO WAY Joe Tiller makes 1.7 mil, while Charlie Weist makes 600K.

Not included in David Elson's contract is the bonus he is paid per cheap shot.

The Purdue Exponent every year has a special issue that has a list of every single PU employees salary including the head football coach. In there it said Tiller makes 250K. I know he gets free things and incentives or what have you, but 1.7mil I still doubt it!

Brookhart got the deal of a lifetime at Akron...but he isn't worth what he's getting paid. And, he's only in year 2 of a 5 year extension. The Akron media always talks about UA having the best recruiting classes in the MAC every year. Sure.
I wouldn't take any other coach in the MAC over Coach B...NONE of them.

His base salary, i.e. what PU pays Tiller is probably $250k but that does not include his incentive package.BGSUFootballFan wrote:The Purdue Exponent every year has a special issue that has a list of every single PU employees salary including the head football coach. Check out this story from 2003 where Tiller's base was $218K but he was already making over one mill.

Take a look at the three-year extension just signed by Purdue's Joe Tiller. His new base salary is $218,000, which athletic director Morgan Burke told us is "irrelevant'' because the real money in coaching contracts is in the TV/radio and personal service guarantees. In this case, Tiller earns well over $1 million a season because of a unique clause guaranteeing him earning opportunities in the 75th to 95th percentile of Division 1-A coaches.
The figure fluctuates depending on team performance, and because of seven consecutive bowl appearances, Tiller brings home more than some bigger-name coaches. "This year he is probably in the top 10 to 15 coaches in the country,'' Burke said.

That sure is a heck of a lot of incentive. I wish my incentives at work paid 8 times what my base rate was. I still don't completely believe that this is true, because of what it lists Charlie Weis at.

Yeah so much for his fire and brimstone. He better start winning games soon!MarkL wrote:I sure hope the Minnesota athletic department is happy with Coach Brewster and his win over Miami. That win cost a million bucks!

This looked like a nifty place to post this link. It's tangentially connected to the discussion anyway.

As a group, it looks to me that the MAC has the lowest paid coaches in the nation, even when you add in bonuses and 'other income'.
And it does appear that Tiller does indeed make only $242,550. He makes more than Urban Meyer ($238,702), who makes more than Nick Saban ($225,000)!!!
