GMAC- THE GAME
After reading the Tulsa message it is a little disappointing to see the lack of knowledge their fans have about the overall landscape of college football. Also, their lack of respect for the GMAC bowl.
I think these programs mirror each other in a lot of ways considering that they both recently came back to respectability in the last 6 years. Both teams have high powered offenses and not so good defenses( that is being nice I think). Both teams also have coach that might be looked at by other schools for potential head coaching vacancies. I think this will be a heck of a game, I think if TULSA's team thinks just like their fan base that Brandon will have a lot of locker room material and will play the disrespect card and the Falcons win in a high scoring fun game to watch.
I also think the GMAC Bowl might be disappointed with attendance.Tulsa is one of the smallest schools in Div 1 football and the date is bad for BG and their fans for the most part especially students. I see a very small crowd.
ALSO FOR THE LIFE OF ME IT DRIVES ME NUTS THAT THEY ALL THINK CUSA IS A SUPERIOR CONFERENCE... I AM NOT SAYING THE MAC IS A SPECTACULAR CONFERENCE BUT CUSA IS NOTHING SPECIAL AND SOME WOULD ARGUE IT IS SIMPLY LIVING OFF AN OLD REPUTATION FROM SCHOOLS WHO HAVE LEFT THE CONFERENCE.
I hope BG will give TULSA fans a reality check of where they stand in the landscape of college football.
GO FALCONS!!!!!!!!!!!

don't worry about what their fans are saying. i was excited to hear that you'd be playing tulsa after our disappointing finish dropping our final two games to fall our of bowl contention. not only is tulsa an excellent team with a great quarterback, but i would take the gmac bowl in a heartbeat compared to a shared mac east title, an appearance in detroit and a drubbing from the chips. that said, tulsa isn't exactly a national power so i'm not sure where the attitude comes from. perhaps marshallll has worn off on them in a shorter period of time than you might expect!
you guys should be psyched and good luck!

Per the GMAC Bowl website BG's tickets are on the A-K side, the press box side which is where the Memphis fans were last time. . . I'm going to say BG will be the home team. The Niz wrote:Who is the home team this year? We were the away team against Memphis, which honestly was disappointing as a band member. It would look funny with an away side filled and an empty home side.
Now the only question is .... ORANGE or BROWN jerseys???
all bowling green

Conference USA is not special. A lot of computer systems, including Sagarin, have them rated significantly below the MAC in football season. Specifically, Sagarin rates Conference USA below the Gateway and the Southern this season.60yearsofsicsic wrote:ALSO FOR THE LIFE OF ME IT DRIVES ME NUTS THAT THEY ALL THINK CUSA IS A SUPERIOR CONFERENCE... It's early, but the RPI has been playing out the same way, with the MAC around 10th and Conference USA around 17th.
The biggest difference between the MAC and Conference USA is the weather. It means Conference USA teams have an easier time getting fans to their games and it means they have more bowl games because they are located closer to them.
In basketball, it's basically a one-bid league -- two, if Memphis fails to win the conference tournament.
It's way too early for Marshall to regret leaving the MAC for Conference USA. But one thing they clearly failed to do was envision what Conference USA was going to be, rather than what it was.
I agree. But reality has a funny way of rearing its head:AND SOME WOULD ARGUE IT IS SIMPLY LIVING OFF AN OLD REPUTATION FROM SCHOOLS WHO HAVE LEFT THE CONFERENCE.

Reality is already catching up to perception. We can help it along with a win in Mobile.

I don't really get caught up in rankings, and though the MAC is not as strong as it was in say 03-04, I think it's pretty evenly matched with C-USA. And I totally agree with the sentiment that C-USA is living off the reputation of teams no longer in the league. If Rick Pitino were here right now, he'd say "Louisville, Cincinnati and South Florida aren't walkin through that door."

Looks like they did the ole switcheroo on us. Previously the GMAC Bowl Website said the BG fans will be on the West side (press box, Memphis side from '04). Today I see BG is back on the East side:Dayons_Den wrote:Per the GMAC Bowl website BG's tickets are on the A-K side, the press box side which is where the Memphis fans were last time. . . Also, with the move we will be the designated away team so the question of ORANGE or BROWN jerseys has been answered: WHITE, per the sideline switch and the Tulsa website stating they will wear blue:

I love the look of the new white uniforms and we did well in white on the East side in '04!
I wonder if they actually "moved" BG to the East side thinking we'd have more fans to show up on TV? In looking at past pictures of the GMAC Bowl it appears the MAC team is always the designated away team wearing white. I thought most bowls flip-flop that each year?
To the game I like to wear the jersey the team is donning that day, but I think I'll go orange to show up better on tv. . . .

I think the MAC has always been the "visitor." And, considering we play a Conference USA team in the middle of their footprint, I guess that makes sense.Dayons_Den wrote:I wonder if they actually "moved" BG to the East side thinking we'd have more fans to show up on TV? In the Motor City Bowl, I think the MAC has always been the "home" team.
And, as far as angling the TV cameras: In 2004, I can tell you that Memphis brought more fans than Bowling Green did. This time: Who knows? We just might bring more.
