I think repost has some relevance here. After making a nice run to end the season 8-4, people are ready to anoint Brandon. Let’s not forget how frustrated we all were at mid-season after Miami and OU games. Bottom line is that we had the division in our hands and let if slip through yet again. Our goals shouldn’t be to have a nice season and be one of the better teams in the MAC.

That is the exact point and it should have been very obvious to all. And I have no axe to grind. None.

I don't think many people are "anointing" Brandon anything. The point is, a good program has two choices when a coach enters the final year of his contract. You extend him, or you fire him. Bowling Green simply can't fire a coach after a winning season and a bowl game, no matter how weak the schedule is or how many reservations it might have about it's coach.

This is where we disagree. It was parsed out a great deal more in the other thread but there certainly are not just two options. There are at least 3 and if I was at all creative or smart I could probably think of more. The two you mentioned are absolutely the most attractive two but they are the polar opposites and there is a gray area in between.

On the far right side you have the firing of the coach due to poor performance.
On the far left side you have the extending of a coach due to quality performance.
In the middle you have the area, as you said, that you don't want to be in, with a "lameduck" coach working for a contract extension. But sometimes programs come to a point where they have to choose door number 3. A coach has not earned a contract extension but at the same time that coach has not performed poorly enough to warrant firing. And they are still under contract. The inconsistency that this program has shown, the failure last season, the lack of development in players when they get here, the lack of consistent quality game management, the lack of improved attendance, weighed against the success of this season and what that success can be attributed to leads directly to a situation that fits not in option 1 or 2 but 3. He is under contract, let him earn his extension or earn his non extension. Despite the negatives with having a coach under a one year contract I feel option 3 was a better choice.

Didnt Dakich play out his contract? Basketball is a different animal but I would say that the early returns are that it was not an issue.

I'm not going to get into a "tit for tit" (as Dwight Schrute would say) on this, but a few things deserve mentioning. It's wonderful to have high expectations, but it's extrordinarily foolhardy to think that anything short of a championship is grounds for dismissal. We were the first MAC school selected for a bowl after getting 8 wins. Brandon has had 4 winning seasons in 5 years, winning bowl games his first two and sharing divisional titles in two of the last 3. That's good enough to warrent an extention at just about every school in America not named Mount Union.

If anything, this year has validated Brandon's game management and player development abilities, not exposed them. The attendence has been fine, and four winning seasons out of five seems pretty consistent to me. Last year stunk, but it was primarily due to playing a bunch of freshmen and sophomores who have now matured and have righted the ship. If we focused on every flaw of every coach and program in America, you could make a case for firing Pete Carroll (Program in decline, horrible management vs. Stanford) and Jim Tressel (national title blowout, Illini loss, etc.)

I'd love to win every game every year by 50 points, but it simply isn't going to happen. I would, however, like a coach who could win more games that anyone else in the conference, beat Toledo and get invited to a bowl. If only we had someone like that...

Reintroducing this thread again makes no sense.. Brandon earned an extension. The term of the extension is debateable. We all want BG to win the MAC. Give Coach Brandon credit when he has earned it.

I never said he should be dismissed nor did I say that a championship was needed for that. I dont think he should be dismissed. I think we should walk the fine line and let him earn whatever happens next season.

In your posts you keep mentioning that people have changed their minds in the last four games. What do you want? If BG wins the GMAC, is that not good enough? Brandon has three bowl appearances in 5 years. What have previous coaches done? What has Urban done with his own recruits?
Were you all over Dakich for never getting BG to the NCAA's? Are you the type of person that needs to complain to be happy? BG is in a bowl game, why can't we be happy and pull for them to win?

You keep saying 3 bowl appearances in 5 years. 5 years ago were there 3 bowls that a MAC team could get into?

Also who said I wanted them to lose? I absolutely want them to win. I absolutely want Gregg Brandon to be the head football coach next year and do so well that he earns an extension.

Are you the type of person that sees disagreement as unhappiness and someone questioning something as it being negative?

Maybe he just doesnt like what Brandon stands for in his mind. I know it doesn't make sense to want to fire someone for having a winning season. But hey its his opinion and their is probally no changing it. Like many people's opinions on this board...
