ENOUG ABOUT THE PARKING.... Its BG ..... what are all of you ...... French Exchange Students - BUY A COAT

Okay the real stuff....... Answer these questions -

1. Seating - How many people? 5,000, 6,000 or 5,437. And the types of seatings - do you want seatbacks with cupholders and the some benches for the students. Should the student section be in the center behind the benches or in the end somewhere (you know - the worst seats in the house?)

2. Concessions - Do you want a Food Court environment with some tables and chairs in the center - with lots of video feeds. Or would you rather have the plain jane type with one or two on each side. Should they sell Hammb Home Brew?

3. Hospitality suites - Do you want a special lounge for half-time refreshments for season ticket holders. You know - with comfortable chairs, lots of TV - clean bathrooms. Some place to take a friend, client, or some hot babe you want to impress (This is a NO student zone). Maybe this area is open before the game for meals - reservations required. It should overlook the floor.

4. The all important luxury boxes - Yes? No? How many? Only if communists like Bleeding Orange are kept out? TG is fine as long as he doesn't talk about his freaking patch of Doyt grass?

5. Entry in to Building - Should there be one really spectacular entry with a roomy place for merchanise sales, big graphics of cool moments in BG history (like Ziggy graduating) - and the all important Cochran Hall of Fame/Museum. (DAMN IT THAT IS THE ONLY THING I WANT TO DESIGN).

Now lets hear some focused comments.

Depending upon the orientation of the building, I think the lobby/foodcourt/common/hall-of-fame/archives area would be awesome to have a big glass vista that looks across at the Doyt.... and then some dramatic upgraded lighting on the Doyt and maybe an upgrade to the back of the scoreboard.

I love the idea of the Archives taking a prominent position in the new building.

Ten-or-so rows of bleachers ringing the floor for students. Behind that, individual chair seats for the rest of us. Sure, the alums, business community, etc, would be away from the floor, but the environment would rock.

I think bleachers on one side and end, with a section for the pep band, and chair seating in all other areas, and on one side "floor level" for those that want to pay for the privledge of sitting there.

My knowlegdse of A-band tradition and history is not even close to that of the FMB, but maybe someone out there knows an important figure in A-band history here who would like to have A-band seating named after him :D

SPOTS!

i'm in favor of a horse shoe like anderson. Maybe the HOF can be the flat end of the shoe and constructed of all glass that way the school's all time greats can always watch over our falcons! Imagine Thurmond, Daniels, Mcleod, and Anderson alwyas keeping a watchful eye on our boys.
Yeah right girl!

With the outrageous weight training facilities in the Sebo Center, I don't think you will have to worry about that in a new convocation center.

I'd like to see a place with some of the AA character and charm. AA will never be "replaced" but the new digs could be awesome. Lots of good ideas here.

I really think 5-6,000 seats with the possibility to expand in the future would be fine.

Freak, I love you man, but why the heck would you design something "with the possibility to expand in the future?" I really don't get that concept.

Build it to be the best possible arena it can be at whatever size is decided upon. If the need would EVER arise for it to be expanded, then tear it down and build a bigger one.

Anderson Arena was designed "with the possibility to expand in the future..." it's been in service going on 50 years now and there has never been the need to expand it or grow it. Had it been built as a "best now" scenario back in 1960, MAYBE we wouldn't have been in the pinch we've been in for the past 15-20 years of that facilitiy's life.

People will always argue about the size our building should be. I don't think we've ever, even in the greatest moments of BGSU Basketball history, justified a building with more than 5000 seats. And if we get to that point, my God that will be amazing!! I'll have my season tickets to ensure the best seat in the house when others are left out in the cold vowing to buy season tix the next year.

Filling a place up is not bad... turning a few people away isn't bad... I want that to happen!

I'm looking forward to retaining the atmosphere that makes AA one of the best places in the country to see a game, better lighting, better ventilation and the improved athletic archives/museum.

There needs to be a family restroom or two...I don't like sending my 6 year-old daughter into the women's restroom to fight the dog sized roaches that my wife has encountered in there and I sure as hell don't want to take her into the men's room...hammb and Grant have been in there...not to mention the Freak and bleeding orange. :-)
