RB 2008

Post by Globetrotter »

Going into the final game of this season we will have Turner, Macon and Bullock at RB. Next season, at some point, we will likely have a both Ransom and Geter at some point. It should get very interesting if McCall can dream up a role for each of these players. I can envision all but Bullock slotting out and catching passes like a wide out. This year LSU had something like 6-7 RBs all with departmentalized roles in the offense. Each had their niche. I would expect that this would have difficulty working because when a certain back comes in that would narrow the amount and types of plays that could be called. However they had success and I look forward to watching them trounce the luckeyes to find out more just how they achieved that success. Regardless next year we should be loaded at RB and could move seemlessly out of and into 1, 2 and even 3 RB sets.

Macon's done of course.

I could see both Turner and Ransom moving to more of a slot receiver role and motioning to the back field at times. Being more of a "spread" RB.

Bullock and Geter more in the "traditional" RB role.

It will be exciting to see how things come together. I hope all of their hands continue to improve.

ABout all can fit into the "H" back type role, similar to Cole, and Bullock could be a fullback with a little work on blocking!

I've wanted to see 2 backs or split backs in our offense from the beginning just about. Ransom and Geter, Geter and Turner , Turner and Ransom or Ransom, Geter and Turner for a Full House formation. The possibilities are almost endless.

Is Wooldridge definetly on the defensive side of the ball next year? He was a beast at Walsh Jesuit his senior year running for over 1,700 yards and 18 touchdowns.

For now Woolridge is a CB. From what I've heard, that could change.
I definitely see Bullock becoming what Winovich has been the past couple years. He was a huge part of the offense and I could see Bullock and his size filling in well there.

Woolridge is no longer a DB, he is practicing with the RBs.

I recall that in early 2004 we were experimenting a lot with "Ponies" (?), I think that was the term ... a true, 2-back set. Pope's injury pretty much ended that experiment, IIRC.

The wealth at RB certainly opens up the options. Ranson, Geter, Turner ... all of them should be comfortable (and dangerous) in the slot.

That being said, we've got a whole off-season to worry about that. For now, let's focus on the last game of this season!

one problem here, Winovich = intense hardworker with a solid 250lb body full of muscle, and Bullock = flabby not willing to work hard fumbler and not quick enough on his feet to make the correct reads for blocks.

Well, regardless of what the scheme is next year, I certainly can't be the only get one that gets tingly all over just thinking about the offensive weapons we will have next year. :-D

Was that comment about Bullock necessary.

My opinion is that if everyone is healthy next year, then we will have TOO MUCH depth at RB. Yes, there is such a thing because you want your best players on the field at all times. So therefore I would suggest a position change for 1 maybe 2 of these guys.

I think Ransom would be the best guy to switch. I'm saying that because he looks like the best athlete of the group and the most versatile. Most likely the switch would be to WR, bc he looked like a natural at that in the Minn game. However, I feel really good about Jermiah Kelly, Cheetem, Brighton and even Pronty playing a role at WR behind Freddie & Corey. So maybe DB? I don't know the situation well enough to evaluate there...

Certainly Turner has to be the next choice because he has already PROVEN that he can be versatile. I know we don't really use a TE, but I think he would make a great one. He's already shown that he's good around the goal-line, and his blocking it what I love the most. Sometimes I go back watch the tape of the Akron game this year, strictly to see some of the blocks he made. Incredible. Maybe he could fill the role of Winovich?

As for Geter I think he has to stay at RB. I love RB's like him and I think we desperately need him in our attack. As for Bullock we'll see what happens. We've seen his absolute best and his absolute worse. Therefore I know he's capable of turning things around and coming back next year to help out our team in a big way. We shall see what happens!
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!
