hey guys long time no post.
Tulsa's got a 'meh' kind of running game. Definitely not the kind of running game they would have had if Courtney Tenniel hadn't suffered a season ending ankle injury during fall training. It'll probably come down to which team can shake off it's inactivity rust first. I'd expect both teams to put points on the board, and a low scoring first half, with an offensive explosion in the second half wouldn't surprise me at all.
Their biggest 'asset' offensively is that their offensive coordinator (Gus Mahlzan) is probably going to throw out his playground style of offensive trick plays semi-regularly. Regardless, it should be a fun game for everyone to watch. G'luck Falcons.

Our board has been pretty slow the last few days because Tulsa is a federally declared disaster area after an ice storm knocked over trees in the entire city.San Fran Falcon wrote:Who gives a sh#t what Jesse Palmer thinks! Let the whole world pick Tulsa. BG's gonna be ready!
BTW, Has anyone played over on Tulsa's message board? In a nutshell...they are the most boring MF'ers I've encountered. Arrogant as well.
Weird. Some of our fans are hated for being a little too audacious on message boards -- you should see some of the stuff that goes on when we play UTEP. I wouldn't describe us as "boring." I wouldn't really say "arrogant," either. Louisville fan is arrogant. Gooner fan is arrogant. Floriduh fan is arrogant. But to each his own.
Actually, I alluded to our own mascot as a sex offender in reference to this very picture earlier this year. I believe my actual comment was "mascot? Really. Whoa, I was getting concerned when I'd bring my boy to home games. Wondered why this fella' was hanging around." Bah. Bad mascot, what do you do for a Hurricane? May as well embrace it and move on.

Per the Rush...
Tulsa: 41st, 168ypg
BG: 87th, 130ypg
Terrion Adams averages more yards per game than the average of Turner and Geter combined. So what I'm saying is, don't worry about the rush.
BUT... while its true that your defense does not appear to be good - Tulsa's has been outright horrible at time. We have a bad habit of getting lazy. Very frustrating.
I'm taking Tulsa, just because I think Graham will have worked out some defensive issues and getting our 10th win is good motivation. The #1 offense in the nation has been good enough to get by (even if they were closer than they should have been). BG seems to be decent on offense and special teams and your defense is a nudge better than ours. I'll just have to hold my breath and hope the offense is firing on all cylinders and the turnover bug doesn't rear its head.

One last point... True, Tulsa has played a weak schedule. BUT... let the pot call the kettle black:
Strength of schedule:
#92 Tulsa (9-4)
#116 Bowling Green (7-4)
Unfortunately even your win over Minnesota turned out to be hallow. Its bad to hang our hat on the BYU win, but its one win over a ranked team. With both of us playing otherwise weak schedules I would have needed to see a Michigan State win to have something to compare our BYU game to. Clearly an exercise in futility this late in the season, but its all I have.
What I'm getting at... weak schedules for both of us. Guess we'll have to see if either of us are any good!

Gold*, sorry for being a bit harsh. I had been tooling around on Tulsa's forum and I just found the topics rather pedestrian and nothing seemed all that interesting. However, I do need to keep in mind that topics important to Tulsa fans aren't necessarily going to interest a BG fan. I had been checking out topics before the ice storms you guys encountered, and BTW I hope things are improving out there for you all.Gold* wrote:Our board has been pretty slow the last few days because Tulsa is a federally declared disaster area after an ice storm knocked over trees in the entire city.San Fran Falcon wrote:Who gives a sh#t what Jesse Palmer thinks! Your fans being "arrogant" was a bit over the top on my part as well. In some of the initial posts I read regarding the GMAC Bowl, most of the posters seemed very disappointed about playing us and made it sound like we're gonna get rolled. I think your general attitude about Sooner fans being arrogant, is how a lot of us feel about the Suckeye fans.
So, I apologize. Glad to see you're playing over here and here's to an exciting, injury-free GMAC Bowl

I suppose I'm the pot here. I don't dispute the softness of our schedule. We all recognize that here.JesseTU wrote:One last point... True, Tulsa has played a weak schedule. BUT... let the pot call the kettle black:
I'm just not sure the softness of yours was apparent to people here not that familiar with Tulsa.
Like I said, Tulsa will be a challenge. And, as I said, the Brigham Young win is quality.

Didnt the brain trust also predict Memphis would whomp us? Saying they would run the ball down our throats and shut down our passing.
didnt they also say that Oklahoma defending National election champions would thump us...to start a season, didnt they predict, WI would roll over us, Purdue, Minny, Memphis and alot of teams over the years would just roll us. A few times they were right. With real powerhouses like Ohio State. Yet didnt we out play several of those team and win???? so hard to remember (lol) did not we actually play with many of those teams in close losses, the closest in several cases for those whole seasons for those teams.
tulsa blows folks, they have one guy who they rcount on to run the ball, that is it, they are much like a Cinderella HS team who had a slightly better than avg kid move in to town, who was way better than the rest of division. Tulsa is not only Our D will be able to shut them down, and for once when they do i hope the ESPN guys gage on the big dildos they called it on, and that GB would not only avoid the hand shake at the end of game 56-21, he would avoid the ESPN interview, saying only, you dont have time for some real Pre game coverage, i dont have time for you...The BG news , Sentinel and Blade want to do real interviews, that have real meaning. Gee makes me wonder what the super retard Mark May has to say...NOT!

Tulsa has the #1 offense in the NATION.
And in regard to Memphis in the 2004 GMAC Bowl, their stud RB broke his leg (it was a break, wasn't it?) and didn't play the second half. Not sure the outcome would've been so lopsided if that hadn't happened.
Broke his leg in the first half, and actually tried to play on it in the 2nd half. Dude was a stud. If he ever gets fulltime carries in the NFL, I think he's gonna be a real good player for somebody.

and i have to say it, but even this year if we had played that schedual...our O would have rated...oh second to NONE. Please...these guys are a CUSA joke.
Macman,
I appreciate your bravado, however in regards to your "if we played that schedule comment" I will restate the obvious:
Strength of schedule:
#92 Tulsa (9-4)
#116 Bowling Green (7-4)
Per the rush, we actually have 2 backs that share the load very well. And that's with our original starter out for the season. I was pleasantly surprised by our run game.
Rushing Tulsa:
Tarrion Adams - 1159 yards
Jamad Williams - 480 yards
Rushing BG:
Anthony Turner: 533 yards
Willie Geter: 445 yards
Chris Ballack: 314 yards
So our two backs see your 3 and raise them 347 yards. The rest of your comments were hyperbole and ranting - not really worth touching. What I'm getting at here, is that you have no clue what you are talking about.
The talking heads are wrong, this game is not a virtual lock for Tulsa. But it is not because we lack running backs (its defense we lack!).
/sorry rest of BG fans, but this man is a tool.

Wow, you guys really think you can stop our offense? We are the #1 offense in the country. If Paul Smith can throw for 300 yards against Oklahoma in 3 quarters, he may set records against Bowling Green. You need to know who you are playing and know that we do not get to play against Toledo Tech every week.
Very cool response. This is like the second time I've seen someone actually back off interwebs comments. So, that says a lot. Many fans -- particularly Rice and Ball State -- seem to dig themselves in deeper.San Fran Falcon wrote:Gold*, sorry for being a bit harsh. I think our fans were upset with the location and not getting a shot at a BCS opponent. We have nothing against y'all -- we just take a lot of flak where we're at and want to beat the big boys. For example, last year the state-wide sports radio station ran a spot where the ex-Gooner quarterback radio host made fun of our bowl matchup and name.
Our team is goofy enough that it can beat some of those teams on the right day. But we also lost to freaking UTEP (we hate UTEP, long story).
Are we excited to play in a bowl? Hell yes. After reviewing the payouts and logistics, this is a better bowl than many of us realized. There are worse places we could go -- we got sent to Boise one year.
More than anything, I think you saw our fans upset after a pretty tough loss on the road to a team we rolled a couple of years ago in the same city. Our star QB was hurt and the coach wouldn't play the backup. It was frustrating to watch.
DeAngelo is a freak. Our game against Memphis when he was there -- which was also our first game in CUSA -- was unbelieveable. We knocked out the top two quarterbacks, so they just direct-snappped to Williams the rest of the game. The game went to OT and we missed our extra point on the first TD. We won the game by knocking him out of bounds on fourth and 1. We rushed the field that night.hammb wrote:DeAngelo Williams.1987alum wrote:MACMAN:

I keep waiting for him to get it together in the NFL. He might be too small. My fantasy team needs him.
