As with some others, I stayed out of this thread as long as I could...
A couple things I noticed and wanted to add to...OSU is the largest campus nationwide, not just in Ohio. Plus, as much as some of you would like to add your hatred to OSU by thinking THEY sued OU over the use of "Ohio" will be surprised to find out that OU actually started the lawsuit. I remember the stories in the paper pretty clearly and remember the talk of OSU possibly having to change their logo if they lost the lawsuit.
I was raised in a very Buckeye household...I have an aunt on each side of my family that are OSU alum's, one of which dotted the 'i' during her time in the OSU Marching Band. My dad also spent a year at OSU. I was a Buckeye football fan growing up and still am. When I started attending BG I became a Falcon fan above all and even told my dad "You know I'm rooting for BG whenever they play OSU, right?" and he responded with "You better. That's your alma mater." Also, during the OSU/Michigan game, BG was playing Buffalo. I was at a party at my aunt and uncle's house, sitting near the back of the room on a laptop, listening to the BG/Buff feed. Because I attended BG, my family was interested and was constantly asking me the score...I had my OSU jersey and my BG hat on. The only person that gave me crap was one of my aunt's friends...one of the aforementioned rednecks who have nothing to do with OSU but latch on.
When I started posting on here, I was a little surprised at all the OSU bashing that was taking place but I just looked past it and still do. I can understand the hatred, even if I don't agree with it 100%...especially if they buy a bunch of GMAC Bowl tickets!

That's really cool! My dad didn't go to university, so he roots for my schools. That's pretty cool too.

As an OSU Grad and a live long Falcon fan (BGHS Grad) let me say I think many Falcon fans are band wagon fans, when things are good they are all brown and orange but if things are bad they forget about them. As for the Toledo game, I to thought their was more than 19,000 there. After halftime I don't think more than 12,000 stayed untill the end of the game. That's the problem with many Falcon Fans. That's the turth, too cold, too hot, had a party to go to, needed a nap before I went out later. Sorry but that's how I see it. I still love my Falcons but it is another world compared to Columbus, OH and the support The Ohio State University gets down there.

Growing up in BG and graduating from OSU, I have a pretty good perspective on this whole thing.
I think judging OSU by its worst fans is akin to judging Muslims by the acts of al Qaeda.
And I'm never surprised that BGSU fans don't like OSU, but I am surprised at the vitriolic hate that it brings out in some.

never seen so much jealousy in my life.
Sad really.
Dont forget, you still have to count on us OSU fans that you hate so much to bail you out of your sad ticket sales numbers for your BOWL game. LOL.
No need to hate the fans just because we have something to cheer for and be proud about.
Atleast they still go to games when they are losing..unlike BG folks.
sad.
I purchased two tickets and donated them, but I didnt buy mine from BG's allotment.

Sorry I used those two schools as a point of reference. What I wanted to refer to was elite teams at a sport. In Ohio, fans only have one team that has a shot at playing for the imaginary football national title. This year both Duke and UNC have a realistic shot at competing for basketball's top prize. However Wake does have the last laugh when it comes to football down here.Schadenfreude wrote:Actually, I'm more puzzled about North Carolina State and Wake Forest fans would feel.daspollak wrote:Just my perspective with a state that has two teams. Just imagine how Florida residents feel...
(And East Carolina fans? I'm sure they'd be apoplectic).
On one final note colleges are a lot more evenly covered in the Charlotte area. If I had to pick one team that got the most coverage in basketball its
Winthrop, and for football its Clemson or S. Carolina. Its nice to see the media cover all of the colleges in an area, and not just one.

I'm glad that this thread got back to the original conversation...well, except for the posts by our friend Tekekini.
I was an OSU fan when I was younger. However, unlike most people on here, my reasons for turning on them had little to do with football.
I went to BGSU because it had the best program in Ohio for what I wanted to study. At the very least, their program was on par with one or two other programs as the best, neither or which was OSU. Anybody in my field, not located in Columbus, will tell you the same thing. Then, I joined the National Guard. For six years, I went down to Columbus and got treated like I was getting an inferior education because I didn't go to OSU. Truth was, I didn't even consider going to OSU.
I wasn't the only guy in my guard unit who turned on them. Almost every member of my unit, who didn't go to OSU, did the same thing. They KSU guys, the Akron guys, the UT guys......almost all of them.
I have found that, for the most part, it isn't the OSU Alumni who are the problem. I've also found that, for the most part, the true OSU fans are not the problem either. It is the students (who are caught up in the Columbus hype) and the bandwagoners (like Tekekini). Their arrogance goes beyond football. They think that OSU is the best at everything, even when it is not.
That is why I hate OSU, and refuse to root for them under any circumstances. And for the record, I am not a Michigan fan. I have never been a Michigan fan. I never will be a Michigan fan. The only exceptions to this rule are the days that Michigan plays OSU. And people can say all they want about Michigan being just as bad. I trust my own experiences, and I've spent plenty of time at U of M as well. I just don't see it.
There are bonehead fans everywhere. They exist for every school/team. They just don't exist in the quantity that they do for OSU.

If you didn't go to OSU, then what, pray tell, are you? And don't give me any of that garbage about going to OSU for grad school. That's lame.tekekini wrote:LOL @ referring to me as a bandwaggoner..mmisbg wrote:I'm glad that this thread got back to the original conversation...well, except for the posts by our friend Tekekini.

You're an idiot.
This is a question that I would like to hear most OSU fans try to answer with a straight face.

I had a similar experience. I went to BGSU for education, and if you go into education BGSU is one of the better schools in the nation to go to. In fact, OSU doesn't even have an education program, or if they do, it's really crappy. Some members of my family that went to OSU all asked me why I didn't go, and when I cited my reasons (program, location, and cost) they all just said they were "lame excuses". Yeah, it's a lame excuse to want to get the best education I can possibly get.mmisbg wrote:I'm glad that this thread got back to the original conversation...well, except for the posts by our friend Tekekini.

All during high school, I was a Buckeye fan, and deep down I still kinda like them, but I root for BGSU everytime they play OSU.

OSU has an education program. It isn't exactly crappy.h2oville rocket wrote:http://ehe.osu.edu/news/2007/us-news-2008-rankings.cfmfootballguy51 wrote: In fact, OSU doesn't even have an education program, or if they do, it's really crappy.
However, I've said this before: The "rankings" for college programs are usually determined by the publishing that professors and grad students do.
If you want to know whether or not their education program is strong, talk to school administrators.
Most will tell you that schools like BGSU, Akron, Miami, and EMU all produce better teachers for them. In fact, you will probably even hear a few of them admit to avoiding OSU grads because they haven't had good luck with them. I know that I have heard this from some of the more respected superintendents in the area.
When I was in the guard, I got to be good friends with an OSU student. I always thought he'd be a great teacher, until he changed his major. Thing was, he and I compared notes on a lot of occasions. Most classes I had taught by full professors with 20+ years of experience before they became professors were classes that he had taught by grad students. What's worse, most grad assistants at OSU go straight to Masters from Undergrad.....in other words, no teaching experience. Do the math.
You have to take those "rankings" with a grain of salt. They are worth the paper they are printed on.
