Worst Nickname in the History of Collegiate Sports Ever
I had the sports talk station on before they went over to Ohio State coverage. Their opponent today were the Blue Hose of Presbyterian College.
Of course, I couldn't understand why their name would be "blew hoes," and no one explained what the hell their nickname meant. Can you imagine being on the women's team.
it is "hose" as in stockings...Let's change it to blue sox or something, fellas.

Inventor of the Clusterf**k and Shoot offense.
I personally think the blue hose is a better nickname than the falcons or rockets.
I am sure it has some significant meaning. They didn't just pull it out of their ass.

In the 'knows' about the Hose
Many people have asked me what is a Blue Hose?
I turn the question on them and ask what do you think it is?
Some of the answers that I receive are:
1) a long blue stocking
2) a lady with blue fish net "hose"
3) the standard "I don't have a clue"
The term Blue Hose is cool and unique because many teams are are tigers, eagles, or bulldogs.
The name Blue Hose is different and will remain one of the unique nicknames in the country.
ESPN and other sports networks will love it in years to come when the announcer mentions the Presbyterian College Blue Hose defeated ___________University Bulldogs or Eagles.
The Blue Hose should always defeat animals!
By 2011 we will be on PlayStation NCAA and NCAA GameBoy. Little boys around the country will see the Blue Hose logo and wonder . . .What is a Blue Hose?
A Blue Hose is fierce Scotch Irish warrior.
If you have ever seen the movie Braveheart, you have seen a true Blue Hose.
Mel Gibson played the star role of William Wallace a very valiant Blue Hose. The Blue Hose warriors would paint their face blue and wear blue stockings.
If you are ever in Clinton, SC you need to ride by our stadium and see the bronze sculpture of Cirrus, our Blue Hose mascot.

Can't say its the worst. Banana Slugs? Student Princes? buckeyes, fer God's sake? Not that I want to be on a team named after socks but better that than named after a nut. I'm with Tinibikinin here-buckeyes is WAAAAY worse.Falcon30 wrote:I had the sports talk station on before they went over to Ohio State coverage. I personally think Wolverines or Fighting Irish are the worst. Buckeyes and Falcons are the BEST! Rockets- how original in the pre-pc world that we live in today. I also like any indian name (Braves, Indians, Fighting Sioux, etc), which I know isn't PC by some standards. I am an Olentangy Brave, Bowling Green Falcon, and Ohio State Buckeye.

So it's not so much the actual names of Wolverines or Fighting Irish that you object to, but the associations they bring up?cbjhack wrote:I personally think Wolverines or Fighting Irish are the worst. Anyway, everyone knows that the worst team name in the nation is Rhode Island School of Design's hockey team: the Nads. linky
Their basketball team is the Balls. Sadly, they're not NCAA teams, so I'm not sure if they count in this thread.
Are you D'arcy Mconvey?? Only a former hockey player would even know that the frickin Rhode Island School of Design would have a hockey team.McConvey wrote:So it's not so much the actual names of Wolverines or Fighting Irish that you object to, but the associations they bring up?cbjhack wrote:I personally think Wolverines or Fighting Irish are the worst. I am not D'Arcy McConvey. I did steal his name for this site though.tekekini wrote: Are you D'arcy Mconvey?? Only a former hockey player would even know that the frickin Rhode Island School of Design would have a hockey team.
And he's not 'former', he's playing in Sweden right now.
And to bring this back around to topic, Long Beach State's baseball team is called the Dirtbags. linky
