I am sure it has some significant meaning. They didn't just pull it out of their ass.
Funny- Falcons wasn't pulled from your headroom.

It was chosen for a reason.

The Falcon
Until 1927, Bowling Green State University was referred to as Bowling Green Normal University, for its teacher training curriculum. The school's nickname was "The Normals." That year a man named Ivan "Doc" Lake, who was a distinguished 1923 graduate of the university, and active athletics booster, suggested that the university needed a new nickname. Doc Lake, then a sports reporter for the local Sentinel Tribune news paper, had just finished reading an article about falconry. He suggested the university rename its nickname and mascot, "The Falcons." He felt the bird was a fierce fighter with speed and courage. Doc Lake's suggestion of "The Falcons" met with instant general approval by members of the university. In fact, in 1955 the U.S. Air Force would also adopt the falcon as their mascot at the academy in Colorado Springs, Co. (from bgsufalcons.com)

It also has been said the falcon regularly takes down much larger prey. I think it fits BG perfectly.

For those who think Banana Slugs is worse than Blue Hoes, (that was actually a typo, but I am going to leave it wrong) look at 137's link about UCSB's history with the mascot.

Smurfette makes a bad logo, IMHO
Inventor of the Clusterf**k and Shoot offense.

So he just picked a bird with some barely significant symbolism. It is not the state bird, state tree, it just represents a bird that eats animals. So does a vulture.

Does anyone remember that annoying thing from America's funniest home videos when Bob Sagat was the host?

Also noteworthy are the Fighting Artichokes of Scottsdale Community College. Isn't he cute?
Then there's always the Flying Queens of Wayland Baptist (women's basketball only).

And 'Cardinals' would be even less unique than Falcons.

I don't think I could ever coach or play against Scottsdale Community College, seeing that Artichoke I wouldn't be able to stop laughing

Wow, Nice scheduling OSU. Once you get your a** handed to you by Butler, any win will look good.

Here is one I thought was cool.

What waste of a comment.

Who in basketball doesn't have these games on the schedule?

OSU has already played Syracuse, UNC, TAMU, Butler and Florida is coming up as well as @ Tennessee. Get over your hate for a minute and post something logical.

Atleast it would be representative of the state of Ohio in some way.

Peregrine Falcons have made a comeback and are no longer on the endangered species list. Peregrine Falcon nests are located throughout Ohio. How is that not native to Ohio?

It was a joke and it got a reaction from you. That was the intention. Chill out a little. Life is more enjoyable when you are not uptight.
