MAC football commits

Post by Class of 61 »

Every once in awhile, when I have nothing else to do to keep me busy...and this broken ankle has done that quite nicely, I find more time to do some searching...
Looked up the "commits" for each of the MAC schools just for the heck of it...we're still listed with EIGHT total.... supposedly some posters have indicated more, but the "comfirmed" ones are still locked at 8.
Anyway, it would appear that perhaps the team ALL of the MAC (and E.Div. in particular) might need to watch is TEMPLE. They have a list of TWENTY FIVE commits. I realize that Nothing is "etched in stone" at this time, but these numbers are astounding, as Miami has about 11-12 or so by comparison.
I LOVE to watch this recruiting game unfold.

Over on ncaabbs, the Ohio fans are touting two very highly regarded recruits as commits.

And I agree, this recruiting game is something to behold.

It's my understanding that we only have around 14 or so openings, so we couldn't have 25 verbals like Temple does even if we wanted to. Different schools have different needs depending on what they lose.

Two interesting books on the recruiting process for junkies like us:

Recruiting Confidential by David Claerbaut (A whole chapter about BG and several other chapters and ancedotes about the MAC. The author wrote about his son going through the recruiting process, and BG was one of his finalists)

JF,
I know we couldn't have 25 commits this year...my point was that Temple seems to be loading up...and only 3-4 were JC kids, unlike under the former coaching staff, which used to bring in double figure JC's.... that said, Temple didn't look too bad when we played them...and their record in the MAC this year would seem to bear watching if they get a few more solid classes.

With 25 guys in the same class, they better hope they're not all duds, or they could be looking at another bad four years with no hope of reprieve.
Yeah right girl!

Golden is getting it done at Temple. I think next year's East title comes down to BG vs. Temple.

Temple's putting together a very good recruiting class. Watch out for them in the next year or two.

Yep. The Fighting Cosbys will be a force in this conference as early as next year. In 2 years they could easily be dominate.

In the recruiting rankings quantity is ranked ahead of quality.

I was looking at scout.com's list the other day. They had 25 guys for Temple and only 7 for us. However, all of our guys are 2 star guys for a 2.00 average. Temple's average is 1.96. That's pretty negligible, but thought I'd throw it out there.

Ohio has the best average at 2.43 including a 4 star JC QB & a 3 star JC Safety.

Recruiting rankings are pretty much worthless in the case of the MAC. These scout people don't watch our recruits much, if at all. It's not uncommon for them to downgrade our recruits after they commit to us, figuring that if they went to a MAC school they must not be as good as they initially thought.

This stuff is fun to look at, but take it all with a grain of salt :)

Temple is going to quickly be a force to be reckoned with. Get this - in their normal starting lineup from this past season, there was not a single senior. Just imagine the improvement from one win to four wins, and how much better they could be next year with everyone coming back. They could get good in a hurry.
