This team was up for this game. They came out the first half like they wanted to win. I don't know what was said at halftime but unless Coach Brandon went into the locker room and said "you guys are playing horrible, just give up," I can't blame it entirely on the coaches. This exact situation happened at the EMU-NIU game. EMU was playing great, went into halftime, and came out a different team. I think it has a lot to do with the players thinking they are ahead and it's going to be easy the rest of the way or something along those lines. I really can't blame the loss on the coaching staff.

Oh, and I would really be upset if Coach Brandon were to leave...he gets me tickets to the away games :P
IMO, a teams performance in the third quarter is the best way to judge the quality of the coach. You have all week to study and come up with a game plan. Then after seeing the first half, the coach is given 15 minutes to determine how to adjust that game plan so that his team can succeed in the second half. That is where great coaches excel. Being able to adjust to what has just happened on the field in the first half and making your team better in the second. In our two biggest games on the year, we laid an egg in the second half. So where do you think I am placing the blame?

Two overthrown TD passes
Two missed field goals
One receiver dropping the ball
DB's leaving guys wide open

A coach can only do so much...at some point you need to rely on the kids to get the job done, and you know as well as I do that this is not that easy on the road in a hostile environment in a rivalry game.

The DB's leaving guys wide open stands out to me. I'm sure that the defensive coaches drill the corners about not staring at the QB and losing focus on the receiver. Jelani's play on that 4th down and whoever got drilled in the head on the punt (Jelani, I think) were just bone-headed plays that had nothing to do with coaching.

In addition, all you arm-chair coaches out there try to coach on what the other coach is going to do at half time when they are the ones way behind.

Not that easy is it when everything worked so well in the first half?

It is far easier to make adjustments when you are behind and you become hesistant to make changes when you are ahead and all is going decently.
