Why should I be happy that we lost three games?

Post by Warthog »

I am amazed at how many people here that are acting like I should be having a celebration because our football completed a season with JUST 3 losses. Are you kidding me? Why should we not hope for anything less than perfection?

As a student and you get a B on a test are you happy with that or do you try harder the next time so you can get an A?

As an employee, are you satisfied when you get "above average" performance rating or do you strife for an "excellent" the next time?

On the political side, if you were a Kerry supporter are you satisfied that your guy "only" lost by not getting Ohio, or do you what to try to do something yourself to help your candidate to win the next?

I could go on, but I hope you see my point. By accepting less then the best and that is all you will ever get. You have to be driven to perform at your best. If you are willing to accept the fact that we lost three games , well, would you accept it if we lost four? five? eight? Is there a cutoff some where that it is now ok to question why we lost those four, five, eight games?

Set you sights high, aim for the top, expect to win, and that is where you end up. Being satisfied with being second or third or fourth best and you will never overcome your shortcomings and reach the top.

HERE HERE!

It appears at least one person understands where I'm coming from! I love what this team has done in the past 4 years, but dammit I want MORE! :)

I cannot help it, that I have my sights set on BG eventually playing the role that Utah is playing this year by spoiling the BCS party!

I am accepting the fact that we lost 3 games because we did. I can't do anything to go back and change that. What I won't do is complain about every little thing wrong in our football program. One minute everyone is in love with how the team is doing and the next it's like everyone turns their back on them. Win or lose, I'm still cheering on the Falcons!

Losing games only makes teams better. In sports, the only way to actual improve is to practice hard and play teams or people better than you! Loses hurt a teams record but learning experiences aren't loses IMO. I don't like to settle for anything less than the best, but you can't be the best without learning how first. If you could, a new Bill Gates billionaire would pop up every few seconds or something.

Don't get me wrong, I see why everyone is complaining and it is understandable. This is a forum and that's what it's for. But my glass is half full and it appears everyone elses is half empty.

I call it being glad this isn't a 3-8 program anymore. I call it not pouring more of ones self into something than a person should. My hope was for BG to win a title this year, and it failed badly in that.

Exactly what would we have achieved even had we won last night? A part of a three way divisional title? Please, divisional titles make for nice hype on season ticket brochures, they mean squat if you are not in the title game, and a bowl game after that. So given that all we could have hoped for was the simple joy of beating that team, and a bowl game, what has changed? Nothing. We are still waiting for a bowl game.

If people are going to whine and cry now, they should have started back after the NIU game and been consistent.

The very valid point I and others have been making, is that first, the season isn't over. Second, this was a pretty darn fun year. Third, nobody is saying thing are better for having lost. People are letting last night spoil far more than the game was really worth. Some of us enjoyed this season. Dumping on the rest of us only serves to try to make us miserable, and frankly it gives that school's fans too much satisfaction.

You'd think folks could figure that out.

It's like this after every loss. Thankfully it doesn't happen much. But when you're up by 20 points at the half and you lose by 8, something just doesn't feel right.

You are right that we can learn from losing. But didn't we lose the game last night the exact same way we lost the game at NIU? Guess we didn't learn from our mistakes, so who do you say is responsible for that?

How does that saying go? "Those who fail to remember histroy are destined to repeat it"?

remember that one of those losses was to a team that is in the hunt for the NC and the one of the other two was at the glass bowl where we haven't won in 10 years and we lost to the mac west champ. I say that's not to bad maybe i'm wrong maybe we just suck but hey i'm happy and its too bad you arn't.

Valid points. I hate losing to Toodaleedoo (future guest stars on COPS), but I'm just about over that.

I had so much fun watching the Falcons this year and so many great memories ... Noah standing up in the third quarter of the Temple game to announce "this is the greatest football game I've ever seen" ... tailgating before the WMU game and bein on the sideline late in the fourth quarter (especially when Omar took the time to talk to Noah!) ... does this loss cheapen any of those memories?

No freakin' way.

I'm anxious to see if we get a bowl bid and to see if we can take the program to the next level. And to keep enjoying Falcon football!

[EDITED TO ADD] That doesn't mean I don't want more. I do. I want the Falcons to run the table next year and throw the BCS into further disarray.

For the love of pete, do you really want to find some reason to say we suck? We don't. Did they blow the game, yes. If you want to nit-pick as to what went wrong, do it. But stop trying to find reasons to wallow in trying to make it out as if we sucked all year long. People are trying to tell you why things aren't bad, and among others, you seem to want to find reasons to believe they are.

We were losing to NIU before halftime. After the half they just completely shut there door on any comeback. The only thing similar about that game was the scoring drive down field with less than 2 minutes to go.

The real reason TU won was because they have been preparing for this game since day 1. Sorry to say, but their secondary was in our playbook the way they were knocking down passes.

figuring out what went wrong leads to not making that mistake again, therefore winning a game instead of losing. Never did I, now will I say we suck. We have a pretty good team. Why am I being chastised for wanting more???

maybe I should just go put my rose colored glasses back on so I can feel good about losing to Toledo.

I was talking to Warthog specifically, others in general.

I should use that fancy quote function more.

Speaking generally again. Its not that I'm without my concerns. I'm not saying folks should be happy with three wins as much as they should keep things in perspective. Most of the MAC likely considers some of the things said here to be silly, if only because they appreciate what we have more than some here do.

In any case, the people who support that school have so little to cling too outside of one or two sports, I'm not about to let them gain more than the simple win itself. Trying to get under our skin is what they enjoy the most. Why give them even that.
