2008 Schedule

Post by The Coach »

I know this is a little early, but does anyone know what our non-conference schedule looks like next year. I just read that we have to go back out to Boise State. They should be coming to The Doyt. Just wondering what you all know. The only game I know for sure is the Sept. 6th game vs. Minnesota at home. That one is posted on the Minnesota football site.

According to Boise's site, the game @ Boise is Saturday October 4. Still hoping to find a way to get there ... :D

Seeing as how the MAC has treated us in the past, what say we don't hold our collective breaths.

According to Greg Christopher, we WILL have SIX games at the Doyt in 2008. It's a big priority of his.

Chris:

That would be quite a feat, if he can pull it off! With only 1 home OOC game, we would need 5 of our 8 MAC games to be home.

Thinking out loud ...

@ Toledo
@ Temple
@ Ohio
@ Akron

Home vs. Miami
Home vs. Kent State
Home vs. Buffalo

TBD: Second MAC crossover game

So if GC is going to get us six home games in 2008, here are the options as I see them, if we assume that the second MAC crossover game will be at The Doyt (giving us 5 home games) ...

1) The MAC will have to put the screws to one of our MAC East brethern (Ohio, Akron, Temple) or Toledo and have them play us on the road a second consecutive year.

2) Drop one of our OOC roadies and pick up a home game against a D-IAA school (seems late in the game to get a home game against a I-A school).

Obviously, #2 would be the easiest path to 6 home games in 2008.

6 homes would be great.

here's what I hope happens:

1) get NIU, CMU, WMU, or Ball State for a game at the Doyt (since it's a MAC west opponent, why not shoot for CMU or Ball State, both are supposed to be good next year)

2) Drop the Boise game if possible, and pick up another mid-major or D-IAA. Honor the Wyoming game because they seem more likely to make a trip to the Doyt next year. I am so tired of the whole Boise State situation. I know it is the MAC's fault, but I would rather just rid ourselves of the whole mess. MAC mistake or not, it is an insult to go to Boise 3 times and have them visit the Doyt once, in like 2012.

3) Don't force Ohio, Temple or Akron to come to the Doyt 2 years in a row. I know we'd complain like hell if we had to go to a division oppenent's place 2 years in a row. Keep that part of our schedule as fair as possible, even if the rest hasn't been.

I think the six games at the Doyt is definitely a goal, but is not going to happen in 2008. We already have three OOC commitments to play on the road. Unless we back out of one of them (or the MAC office forces us to drop Boise St again), we will only have five at the Doyt in 2008.

'87, Yes, I think we will see a home MAC game on the 13th or 27th, and an off week the other one. So in my selfish mode, I would prefer an off week on the 13th and a home game on the 27th. Otherwise, we might have a stretch of three Saturdays in a row with no game at the Doyt. I hate that.

There's PLENTY of time for the schedule to change... as long as the MAC is scratching our back this time, not stabbing it, I'm cool. (Though I'd really love to keep the schedule as is, before we start getting a reptuation for yanking games, regardless of who's responsible.)

I know it can't be this simple...but I just don't understand why can't we switch the order in which we play the series? For example, why is it that we can't have Boise come here in 08 and switch to goin there whenever we were supposed to have them come here...it's not like they have already sold tickets for our game there. Obviously we both have that date reserved... anyone know why this wouldn't work...not looking for smartass answers.

I asked GC at the Defiance Barnstorming tour how much input the MAC office had into scheduling. He said something to the effect that previously, they had a lot of "input" but going forward they would have a lot less.

I see that as a good thing...

In looking back at my notes from my conversation with GC, he said we definitely have six home games in 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012. He is working to get six at they Doyt in 2008, but it might be tough with scheduling conflicts. So, I guess I misspoke if I implied it was a definite.

2009 and beyond is though... GOOD NEWS!
