Does anyone know if the games are shown live on the internet? I'd pay to watch them, since I can't be there in person!! thanks!!

GO FALCON ICERS!!!
SWEEEEEEEEEEEP THE TOURNEY!!!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

I have to say I quite concerned about your lack of support for the team.

Hopefully the JV tournament goes well for your son. The Mayor's Cup Tournament starts tonight here in Dayton. There are four High Schools in the tourney (Centerville, Troy, Beavercreek, and Springboro). Centervilleis on a tear this year and should easily take the tournament. I'm hoping to get to a couple of the games with Nicholas.

Wisconsin has nothing on their site for video, so I would assume that's a no.

Is there anything Centerville isn't good at?

Personally, I would like to see Troy (my hometown) win the tournament. They had a couple of really good players last year (who I thought were only Jrs.) plus Centerville lost players to the Dayton Bluehawks (a club team). So I thought this might be Troy's year, but I saw Troy and Centerville at the Frozen Creek Tournament and Centerville was a pretty strong team. I also watched Centerville have their way with Alter.

With the four teams in the tourny and how they are all playing - I think Centerville will take the tourney - its knowing what the teams are doing and not necessaryily how I feel about Centerville......

Colgate wins in the shootout to advance to the championship game tomorrow afternoon. Which means we get to play Wisky tomorrow night at 7 (8 EST)! Let's see if we can capitalize on a tired Wisconsin team that is down three players. Go Falcons!

speaking of high school hockey I'd take a hefty a wager that my schools team would take any school in Ohio, yea Im pretty confidentt in our team with Jordan Toews at the helm. He will be following in her brothers footsteps and skipping the junior curcuit going straight to North Dakota. Not to mention he has surpassed Jonathon in all time scoring for our Sabres. However, best of luck to all Ohio High school players. It is easy to see that the talent in Ohio is finally growing fast.
Dave Ellett is a hero. A Bowling Green Falcon and a Former Jet and Maple Leaf. What more can a Winnipegger ask for.

I would even wager that the kids who don't make your high school team could beat the Ohio teams

FWIW - Troy beat Centerville 5-2 last night. Maybe Troy is going to find its groove in the tournament and turn-around their season.

Falcon Fanatic - I'd love an update on your son's tournament. How are they playing?

that would be interesting to watch, there are several HS programs in Ohio that are quite strong, yet I no NORTH American HS could compete with any of the teams from the Founders Prep league, the teams are just far to loaded with straight to Hockey East and ECAC talent.

St. Ignatius won the JV tourney. BG won the first game (against St. Francis of Toledo) 2-1 in a shootout (My son got the lone goal during the game!!). We lost yesterday to Hudson (good team) 3-2 and today lost to St. Ignatius 3-1. Yesterday my son got a goal that they waived off, though everyone standing down there at the end said it was in, but the FAT ref was slow getting down the ice and didn't see it in the net...no kidding the goalie was in FRONT of it and pushed it out....GRRRR!!!! But overall, the JV team is pretty young and my son played VERY WELL the whole series. We were missing 3 defensemen, so other than the usual complaints about crappy and inconsistent refereeing, they didn't do to badly!!

The Varsity got hammered 7-1 by St. Ignatius in their first game and 5-0 by St. Francis (Toledo) in their second game. They are currently losing 1-0 to St. Johns of Toledo (last year's State Champ). Hope they can pull out a win today and salvage some of the tourney!!

Playing three private schools is tough. We all know they don't "recruit"

Overall is BGHS Hockey on the decline or stable. With the expansion of the sport, I can only assume your losing players to the clubs and the parocials.

I did find the BG Hockey homepage. It listed the Varsity tournament, but not the JV. Sort of my pet-peeve that the schools (or webmasters or parents in charge of the boosters) seem to only care about the Varsity and its hard to find information on the younger teams. A few schools give some space for the younger teams.

Regarding those private schools, we've always said, "It's the best hockey money can buy!!" We (the JV) played St. Ignatius earlier in the year at the Thornton Park Tourney in Cleveland and lost to them 5-2 (I think), but played them MUCH better this time around. Given that it was with a with a shortened bench and the third game in three days, the kids did pretty well!

You are right on regarding how the JV gets treated compared to the varisity...Lack of web page information on them is nothing compared to other issues there... But that said, I am really happy my son is on the JV team this year. He is getting a TON of ice time, is on the first line and is often double shifted (like he was all weekend with the short bench), is on the PK and PP, too. He and one of the goalies are the two seniors on the team and even though both kids are kind of on the quiet side, they provide invaluable leadership to that team. My son's playing ability should have him on the varsity this year, but if he were there, I am 100% certain he would be only getting one or two shifts a game. At least in his final year, he's having a great time, getting the most ice time he's ever had and enjoying playing the game immensely!! And that is all that matters to me!!!

Regarding the the state of high school hockey in BG, it has been on the decline for years. When the Falcon teams started going downhill, the trickled down effect was that less families were interested in having their kids play hockey at the younger ages. The Bowling Green Youth Hockey Association used to have at least 3 to 4 teams at every level, and now they barely have enough kids for 1 or 2 teams it seems. Having other schools add hockey (Fremont, Eastwood, Maumee, Perrysburg, etc..) has also hurt enrollement. Kids that used to come into BG to play, can now play in their own towns. Not having a strong youth hockey program to "grow" competitive talent in has hurt BGHS over the years. I noticed it starting to happen when my son started in the youth program back in the mid 90's and it's only gotten worse since then due to the factors already mentioned. I want the Falcons back on top for more than just national glory and recognition. I want them back on top consistently so the sport doesn't die a slow death here in BG at the youth level!!!!

I think alot of parents (and adults) forget that in the end the kids want to play and have fun. Winning is good, but who wants to sit on the bench of a winning team.

Nicholas finally got a try-out for a soccer club about 2 months ago (broken foot didn't allow him to try-out in the Spring). The club told us they had space on the U15 Elite team and the U16 Premier, with the U16 team only having 12 players (you field 11). I told Nicholas to hope for the U16 team - while its playing up (which is a very good thing skill albeit on the "B Team"), he would get much more playing time. So far - 2 goals in four games and lots of good plays to support the team.

I thought BGHS hockey was struggling. The expansion of the sport is good overall, but has hurt some of the traditional powers such as BGHS. Still - Hope you guys have a great season - no matter JV or Varsity.

BTW- According to Nicholas, Centerville's JV team is actually a club team and allows players from other high schools which don't have a hockey team a place to play. I thought that was a good way to go. One of Nicholas's football bud's in on the club team as a freshman.

Ya see, you should have changed your last name...then he'd be first line varsity playing 30 minutes a game  [-X #-o

BG hockey is down from years past, when you look at the flow of young players up from the youth ranks which are substantially down from about a peak in the early 90's.
But the numbers are down a bit every where...some blame it on year round soccer as an expanded opportunity in the area, some say costs, some say overall exposure. I would think its all and then some. What kills me is when St Johns won last year, the toledo media kept saying " First time in over some outlandish number of years a NW ohio team won states" when BG has won numerous times inthe range of years they mentioned.
I would pay good money to see the following hs teams in a tourney.
St Iggy
BG
Northview
St Johns
Culver Academy
Avon old Farms
The gunnery
Minnetonka
