I Don't Get It...
I Don't Get It...
I don't get it and Im probably being petty but can some one help me understand this:
Out at a social gathering I heard the same group of people say "Michigan was so bad this year" "Best day ever was when Michigan lost to App State" and then cheered for Michigan the whole 4th quarter. Then they say "I cant believe they are carrying that choke artist off the field"
They lost one game to Florida(2 if you count basketball) and they would rather see thier arch rivals win?
I know most osu fans probably didnt even care about the game, but to cheer for Michigan? Are you kidding me?
I would only not root against Toledo in a few occurances, but i would never, ever vocally root for them. Like if they needed to beat Miami or someone to help us win the MAC I probably would.
Sorry, i just had to vent...I do not mean to wast anyones time...that is all

Let me explain it to you in two words.
Conference Pride
Now let me explain my explanation.
When all you hear is how the SEC and the "SEC Speed" is the greatest thing since sliced bread and how much the Big Ten sucks it becomes a Conference pride factor. It was the Big Ten v the god almighty SEC. It was a chance for the Big Ten to show, once again that the SEC is over rated. The Big Ten was 2-1 against the SEC last year in bowl games but it was convenientyl forgotten. This year they are 1-1 and OSU has the chance to give the Big Ten the advantage ONCE AGAIN.
That is why they were rooting for Michigan today, as was I. F the SEC!
F Wisconsin for blowing it against Tennessee.
I am sure you would root for UT if they were playing OSU in the Motor City Bowl or something. It is would be the chance for the MAC to show something. Conference pride.
P.S. Michigan was much faster than Florida today even though Florida has that SEC speed
(myth).

Conference Pride is probably the biggest reason (and a hate of Florida).
In the old days, pre-John Cooper, fans at OSU games would actually root for Michigan to win all of their games. I remember asking my father, why? After all, wasn't Michigan the hated rival? He commented that we wanted Michigan to go into the OSU-Michigan without any losses, especially in the conference. Because of that, it made the game more interesting for all fans. However, when Coop was brought in, and thus also brought his lack of passion for "THE GAME" fans got sick of having it handed to them by Michigan year in and year out. With OSU losing so much to Michigan under Cooper, I think an entire generation of bandwagon kids were created whereby kids born and raised in Ohio to fans/alumni of OSU became Michigan fans, especially after the success in hoops (or failure if you are the NCAA). It wasn't surprising to see a lot of kids in Columbus wearing Michigan stuff. With OSU doing well in THE GAME, and also doing well in general under Tressel, the tide has changed. The only ones wearing Michigan stuff are Michigan natives, or those that go to/went to school there. (Or half of Toledo).
Although to show the power of OSU and Michigan, one doesn't need to look beyond the coaches of the last two BCS Championship games and the lineage created by Woody Hayes. Tressel, Meyer, and Miles all have ties to Ohio, OSU, or Michigan. Tressel was an assistant at OSU in the 80's, Meyer was a GA and has his masters from OSU, Miles is from Elyria, played at Michigan under Schembechler (who by the way got his masters at OSU), got his masters and was a GA at UM, and to top it off, his top assistant, Bo Pellini is a former OSU player under Bruce and Cooper. Also, one of Meyer's assistants or GA's last year was Earle Bruce's grandson.
In a way you could say that Greg Brandon is also a part of this lineage, having coached under Meyer.
Pretty good lineage from Woody Hayes.

Well,, considering that most of the rankings of the BCS conferences have the SEC at the top (and they are supposedly having a "down" year this year, I can see the SEC "love fest" you're mentioning.tekekini wrote:I don't hate Florida, they deserved everything they got. I just hate the SEC love fest that I have to see and listen too on TV.
By the way, nearly everyone I've read, Stewart Mandel, et al, pick the Big Televen as the #3 conference out of all BCS conferences. I am actually surprised at that for this year, seeing as how UM lost to App State and how terribly Minnesota, Northwestern, etc. are. I would have figured this as a down year for the Big Televen.
We'll see how things shake out next week, I guess. And how about Illinois getting their asses handed to them by USC? Wow...

I hate both michigan and florida, but wanted michigan to win for the big 10. I also loved seeing mich hart suck it up. he is just awful and watchin him fumble not once but twice at the one yard line made my day.
Another question is did anyone else notice all the smack talk going on in the game? It was pathetic and there were times I found myself watching that outside hockey game and I hate hockey. both of these programs are full of cocky, think their stuff dont stink players. with the exception being tim tebow. i have never seen him do anything cocky or trash talk, even though I do not like him and hope he doesnt win another heisman so archie is the only two timer.

Did you watch the Motor City Bowl? The Purdue players found every camera within 10 feet of them and had to trash talk.mathalete wrote:Another question is did anyone else notice all the smack talk going on in the game? Talking about how great the SEC is does get old, but when you get down to it they ARE. It is by far the best conference in college football, and they're having a pretty good bowl season.tekekini wrote:I don't hate Florida, they deserved everything they got. It's just like the Yankees/Red Sox talk. I get tired of that too, but the fact remains that they've been the 2 best franchises in baseball for awhile, so they get all the talk.

The SEC is the best conference...period.
I was talking to my sister yesterday (the one that transferred from BG to Kent State and is an OSU fan) and she said they were rooting for Michigan. When I asked why, she said "Because they are in the B 10". I asked "Are you sure you're not rooting against Florida for the ass whooping they put on OSU last Jan?"
She and my BIL trash Michigan all the time but yet there they were rooting for the "hated" Wolverines. Whatever.
She then asked me "If Toledo was in the Rose Bowl, you mean to tell me you wouldn't root for them?". I told her 1) UT will never be permitted to play in the Rose Bowl in my lifetime and 2) heck no I wouldn't root for UT even if they were playing a team of terrorists led by Bin Laden. Well, maybe in that case...
First, they can't believe I won't root for OSU...and now UT. WTF? I can't win either way. I have to admit...I hope LSU puts a hurtin' on OSU. I can't imagine why.

Not everyone who likes OSU hates Michigan, maybe she just a casual fan.
In my case it was not because Florida beat OSU..It was Big Ten v. SEC .Period.
I hate Wisconsin but I was rooting for them against Tennessee as if it was OSU on the Field. I am tired of the SEC.
They may have been the best conference this year, but they are not the best every year.
They better enjoy it now, Big Ten is on the come back. UM, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Penn State are only going to keep getting better and will be able to compete more with OSU.
UM came back after their debalce to start. Fact of the matter is that the Big Ten had 10 bowl eligible teams, Only Minnesota was not.bgsufn wrote:Well,, considering that most of the rankings of the BCS conferences have the SEC at the top (and they are supposedly having a "down" year this year, I can see the SEC "love fest" you're mentioning.tekekini wrote:I don't hate Florida, they deserved everything they got. Umm... unless I can't count, the Big Ten had eight teams that played in bowls (2 BCS):tekekini wrote: UM came back after their debalce to start. Fact of the matter is that the Big Ten had 10 bowl eligible teams, Only Minnesota was not.
Winners:
Purdue
Penn State
Michigan
Losers:
Michigan State
Wisconsin
Indiana
Illinois
Yet to Play:
Ohio State
Did Not Qualify:
Iowa
Minnesota
Northwestern
BTW, the SEC has 9 teams that played in bowls, 2 BCS.
I'm not going to argue this any more... the SEC is clearly the dominant team this year. Who knows about next year. I just wanted to correct your facts about the number of bowl teams, tek.
