I fly into Pensacola at 9:30 and then drive to Mobile...should be in town no later than 11. I think I'll be heading down earlier than first thought.MobileBama wrote:I suggest meeting up at Pat's then walking to Bienville Square to watch the parade. I'll be heading that way so you can all stand with me. I've noticed a lot of you aren't coming until later. I know most of you can't help it b/c of travel, but if you can get downtown and have lunch then walk around, I highly suggest it.
I sent an email to Dave who writes for the Toledo Blade and hopefully he will mention Pats and other suggestions I've offered about Mobile.

'87 Alum, you'll have plenty of time to get downtown. I suggest taking Airport Blvd. (the main road you'll be on when you leave the airport), all the way south to the I-65 exit. Take I-65 south to I-10. Take a left towards FL and get off on Water Street/Downtown Exit. Park in the Riverview Plaza parking deck on the left ($5 i think). It will be MUCH better than trying to navigate through the city. PM if you need more specific directions. I would come meet you at the airport and let you follow me, but by 4pm, I don't think you'd want to be following me anywhere. We'd end up in New Orleans

The bar will be open at 1. Please bring whatever you can to decorate the bar. Also if you bring a band cd, the manager will play it over the loud speakers and a jukebox will be available. Acoustic music will be playing after the parade. Bacardi (sp?) Rum will be running specials on hurricanes and other speciality drinks. Bicardi girls will be handing out beads, shirts, hats, trinkets, etc. Any Falcon fans you see in Mobile, please tell them about Pat's. I'll be there around 1:30 and look forward to seeing lots of orange and brown.
We're planning on getting into town around noon, so after a good 2 hour nap we'll probably be catching a taxi to downtown. I can't thank you enough for how much you've helped out MobileBama. If I catch you in your 'bama hat I'll be sure to buy you a beer.

Hope to catch you before the parade starts!MobileBama wrote:The bar will be open at 1. Please bring whatever you can to decorate the bar. FalconFreak, a hat would be great. Man, I'm going to be decked out in BG gear. Thanks so much for the gesture, I really appreciate it. I'll be there around 1-1:30 hanging out and helping set up any Falcon gear.
For those that are weary about coming to the bar, it's going to basically be a meet and greet with some BG fight songs playing. It should be pretty low key in the afternoon, but louder after the parade. It's not a fancy bar or restaurant, but a good place for all ages to come by and say hello. Bring the kids, parents, grandparents, etc. and I know every one will have a good time.
ps. do the students traveling down know about this bar?? what about the football player's parents/families?
Thanks again!!

Damn. With all this schwag MB is pulling in, I can't wait for Indy to host a bowl game!
It's all well-deserved of course. I'm making the same vow Freak did in 2004. Next time we go back to Mobile (likely in 2011, after a couple Fiesta Bowl wins), I'll find a way to be there.
