Actually, Grant's deepest hidden secret is that not only is there no apostrophe, but in small print behind his fingers, the sign actually says "IRREGARDLESS, ITS HALF FULL!!" :D

My thoughts....

Post by Falconboy »

Well, despite the obvious drubbing we took at the hands of a far superior team , I did see a few things a I liked. Mainly OP, he actually threw one down for once instead of just throwing up a prayer of a layup. He played much better D and seemed to be a force in the paint most times. Just like Hammb has said I'm in utter disbelief at how bad we are handling the basketball. I also don't know what Miller was doing half the time trying to drive on much quicker players from the top of the key to the rim every stinking trip up the floor. Why is he not in the low post and his strength down low on somebody. I always had envisioned Miller as being an Anthony Stacy'esque player for us but he is no where near Stacy's game. He's probably much stronger but definitely no where near as athletic and can't shoot out side to save his life(or FT's  ).

I saw basically what I expected for the most part. It really didn't even bother me at all cuz I know that this is what we are looking at for the better part of this season. When Orr gets more and more of his guys in here I expect to raise my expectations. I had even thought at one time of trying to sell off my season tix but decided against it. I paid for em and I'll try and swallow what little I can of this season. Many times on Wed. I would think about Hammb and Grant sitting up a few rows from me and think , Hammb are you sure you don't ever want to see Curt Miller's women's team play? I'm sure you'll say yes, cuz although our offense had not a clue and no one outside of JJ has ball handling skills , watching that one thunderous dunk of OP's is still better than watching our women's team cuz they can't leap 20-35in. in the air. I guess the only way I could stomach the men's season this year is that I'm going to be watching the women all year as well. The best thing we have going right now is that Orr seems to be an extremely patient guy as DD wasn't and that will pay dividends with players like JJ, CK OP down the road.

Count me as one who can't watch women's basketball.

And I sure hope our men can jump higher than 20 in. I can say without a shadow of a doubt almost every girl on the womens team can jump 20 in. Now in men's 35-40 in. is impressive much more so than anything in women's hoops.

I really don't care for women's hoops. If they have a double header this year, I'll be there, but I'm not going to go out of my way to watch them.

Especially since I can watch them in the capacity I want to at the men's game. They were looking pretty damn good the other day ;)

Same tickets get you into both games?

If so, I'll be there...glad you said something, I didn't realize it was a double header.

Seems like enough of a gap in start times to make it a split-session. I can't imagine the overlap in fans between the two games would be so great that it would make much of a difference if they made it a 2-for-1. Especially with a game over break, and with the football team taking some potential fans out of town. Are enough fans going to buy tickets to both games to make a difference financially?

That's what I'm thinking too TG.

I'm not paying twice. They should make it a double header like they used to do all the time.

It just makes sense. I'd love for both programs to be to the point where clearing the gym and charging again means an extra 10 grand or more for the university, but I don't see it happening, esp. for a women's game vs. Chicago State with campus still empty from break. Not to mention pushing the men's game up to 3pm makes heading out to the hockey arena an easier venture for a nightcap. A huge series with the (former ) #1 team in the country made huger with a Friday night win, and the U. is forcing probably more than a few fans to make a decision.

As a wild marketing idea that seem to pop up at 2:30am so frequently... If you're going to have separate admissions why not reward those that want to attend all three events? Show your bball ticket stubs at the hockey game and get in free. Or $3 or something. Heck, with events stacked like that, it's likely that concessions will feel a bump from folks flowing from one venue to the next.

But what the hell do I know? I'm just a schlub working weekends 3 1/2 hours away.
