So at what point do you tell kids who are playing the last football game of their lives to stop playing? When do you tell the guy who never gets play time that he can play, but better not do well? We started running the ball a lot more and continued to score. We put in some secondary receivers and scored. Our starting RB came out and we still ran the ball.
Sorry, but if you watched the same game I did you'd know that running up the score would have been much uglier than it was. He certainly did not tell his kids to stop playing and did press the issue in the 3rd - but anyone that watched the game tonight should be mad at their team for not showing up. Not my team for playing 3 QTs of hard ass football.
Good game. Your players stayed in the game and composed the entire time. I hope you find a way to get prepared in the future as you had more athletic ability out there than I thought there would be, just didn't seem to translate to football tonight for some reason. Good luck next (this) year.

Good game! You should take a look through our forums to see the complainers complaining about us FANS that were pissed about our performance. Tulsa played one heck of a game! When you play football you go for the jugular! It's a hard sport and if the other team isn't ready, you don't play down to the level of the team not prepared. There is no excuse for how we played tonight and those fans having their feelings hurt from the truth is just a simple reflection of how we played tonight. Smith shook the hands of our players and that's sportsmanship! Beat their *sses then tell em better luck next time.

Blow it our your arse. No, you don't stop your players from playing. But no, you don't throw the ball with under three minutes to play when you are up by 49 points with your starting QB still in the game. You also don't continue to use a hurry up offense and have your players run to the line for a quick snap.JesseTU wrote:So at what point do you tell kids who are playing the last football game of their lives to stop playing? 312 yards.
That's how many yards Smith finished the game with. He NEEDED 300 yards to break an all-time NCAA record for consecutive games with 300 yards (Ty Detmer, 1990). So it's not like he got the record and then continued to pound.
Pretty good reason to leave him in and throw it I'd say. I hate to be a dick, but it would have been pretty crappy to deny Smith the record simply because Bowling Green didn't even show up. "Sorry Paul, the team we are playing sucks tonight. Sit down, no record for you."
64 total yards in the 4th Qt. Or less than half of our average. Did you want us to kneel 3 times and punt it? I'm sorry it was a blowout, but I'm also sorry I have to explain this over and over to a sizable minority of BG fans.

Why? Is it going to hurt our poor little players' feelings? Come on! They're men! I think these guys can handle a shellacking. That's life. As I said in another post, Toyota's not sitting there thinking, "We just over took Ford as the #2 auto maker in the US. Let's slow down because we don't want to hurt the CEO and the UAW's feelings."Redwingtom wrote:Blow it our your arse. No, you don't stop your players from playing. And I don't remember anyone on this site calling Brandon a classless asshole when we hung 70 on Temple in 2004, nor do I remember anyone calling him that when we went 63-13 against Eastern Kentucky and 62-3 against Liberty.
This loss sucks and it has to hurt. Especially the Seniors. But you know what? The sun came up today, the elections are still moving forward, martial law has not been declared in BG...We will survive and so will our athletes.

You're an idiot. We had nearly ALL our backups in on those games we won by wide margins. Also, this is a game played by kids, not a forturne 500 battle. I think you may need a reality check.CapitalFalcon wrote:Why? Is it going to hurt our poor little players' feelings? Come on! They're men! I think these guys can handle a shellacking. That's life. And I never said Tulsa should stop scoring. But you can't tell me guys like Jim Tressel and Lloyd Carr would have been throwing the ball with their starting QB in the game with a 49 point lead.
And if Smith was good enough he would have had 300 yards passing long before the final minutes of the game. He did basically nothing that impressed me last night. He overthrew almost every deep route. His receivers were wide open almost every play and he was basically never pressured.

Redwing...What's your deal? So far this morning you have called me a moron and an idiot. How exactly does insulting my intelligence improve your argument? Or does it just make you feel better?
This is exactly why people hate coming to sports boards like this. If you are with the pack, great! If you go against the grain, you are derided, belittled and discounted and your opinion is worthless. And that's fine. It's still a free country (for the most part) and you are able to do and say pretty much anything you want. So congratulations Redwing for executing your first amendment rights, but like many people forget, those rights go both ways.
That being said, I for one have had a belly-full this morning. I have seen that no matter how much talk and rancour we have about other teams and/or the media about XYZ topic du jour (i.e., please see any thread regarding Ohio State, the BCS, or ESPN commentators), but at the core we, as fans, are no different than Bucknuts or any other fans out there. All's well and good when your winning, but when you lose, you need heads to roll.
I hope for nothing but the best for the Falcons. It's my alma mater and I love them! But as we have said in numerous other postings, it's not so much that we hate other schools or sports programs, but we hate their fans and the way they conduct themselves in person or on the net. And that now seems to be true regardless of the team...

Can we just stop all this running up the score nonsense? It makes us sound like a bunch of whiny assholes. Nobody likes the guy that starts bitching about sportsmanship as soon as they get their ass handed to them.
They ran up the score a bit, but they had good reasons to do what they did. Deal with it. We need to worry about our house.

Yeah, you are right. If Smith would have finished the season with only 299 yards passing in the game, his season would have been pretty much worthless.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:Can we just stop all this running up the score nonsense?
