amen, the point of a blog ladies and gentlemen. Oh, and college football is a business, as much as you hate to admit it, the university makes millions.cph2133 wrote:I am not blaming this game on him by any means.
My point was that he is simply not cutting it as a "cover corner", not just based on the Tulsa game, but any other game all season. I understand that we lack options, but shouldn't that be a problem that is addressed?
As far as people referring to him as a "playmaker" I haven't seen any "plays" from him, so sorry if I don't buy that argument.
I couldn't even begin to count the number of threads bashing AT while he was the starting QB, so as far as calling out a student-athlete, isn't that part of what this forum is about? Us wanna-be coaches talking and discussing players, positions, plays, games, etc. I thought so at least. The point of this is to voice opinions (so long as they don't cross the line and threaten someone's life/well being). So that is my opinion on the subject of our horrible defensive backfield, and namely #2. If you don't care to read, don't read, its your free-will. Just as it is mine to post rants about how I cannot stand watching him struggle game after game after games trying to cover someone.

Not on football we don't. Not by a longshot. There are many benefits to BG having a FBS Football team, but direct cash flow is definitely not one of them.bgbrandon wrote:

I am the first one to argue against censorship here, but I totally agree this thread should be deleted. It's not right to call out college athletes who give their heart and soul for this University.
My heart goes out to all of the players & their families. While I am sure they probably had a lot of fun leading up to the game, they are hurting the most over last night's experience. And I definitely hope Antonio is okay after that hit. Ouch!
But as for the coaches, I cannot say I feel so bad for them. My husband was the first one to say that the coaches didn't have them ready for that game.

Are you kidding? We got 750,000 last year for going to OSU, im sure we got easily a Million this year just for our games at Minny, MSU, BC, and the GMAC bowl. I bet we made easily over 2 million this year alone.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:Not on football we don't. Not by a longshot. And how much did we SPEND? It's one thing to receive money. It's quite another to "make" money. Entities are not the same thing as personal income. Making money means your cash flow is in the black. I'm not sure the FB program can say that.bgbrandon wrote:Are you kidding? Our football program is not making millions of dollars for the university. It costs millions of dollars, and may get near millions of dollars in revenue to offset that cost, but it most certainly is not making millions of dollars in profit.

Can we delete this thread and start a new one for a revenue discussion? Please? Just seeing the title of this thread in the roster is completely humiliating. Some people around here are entirely void of class. It's embarassing.

I am not addressing this to any particular player but to some of the responses that have been made here. People have said you shouldn't complain about young men giving their heart and soul, or playing their heart out, or other such language. That's all well and good if it is true. But just because someone has a scholarship does that mean they will play hard all the time. There is certainly a number of people who will just cruise because they think they are good enough and don't actually give 100% effort.
Again, I am not accusing Smith or any one else of this. But I think it is certainly fair to call someone out who isn't playing hard, regardless if it is junior high, pro, college, scholarship player or walk-on.

I respect the opinions of people like hammb, J4H and warthog...they're here posting when things are going well and there here posting when things are going...not so well. We don't usually agree on everything, but it's a fun discussion nonetheless. It's the hotheads that feel compelled to show up here only when things go badly so they can post their pissy little diatribes that irritate me.
I don't think we should single ANY player out after a meltdown like last night's game. I don't have a problem with calling out the coach or coaches...they clearly did not have the team ready to go last night and that is on them...it's their job for crying out loud.
