Irrational OU Fans...
My favorite dunk by Antonio Daniels (while at BG) was the one he had over Gary Trent when he went caught a inbound pass, raced over halfcourt and the went hard to the rim. Trent was back-peddling and Daniels took off and just threw it down over him. Awesome! Also, two great games around that time, of course the last-second shot by Daniels in his return game to BG after Chris died in a win over Top-25 EMU, and the 25-point come-from-behind win over Miami. That comeback was incredible!
GO BG!!!
I remember that well...it was awesome.Flipper wrote:Ron Lewis practically jumped through the roof a few years back with a put back dunk against OU...I think he took off from just inside the foul line, made contact with the ball somewhere in the midle of the key and tomahawked it down.
he didn't say "Ow"....he didn't even wince IIRC....
Pretty sure Grant's got some footage of that one somewhere too.

I'd kind of forgotten about them, but it's always great to look back on that "era" of BG hoops. So much athleticism... so much speed and vertical....
I sent a link to that Sr. night edition of the Jim Larranaga show to Dan Cummins and Coach L... asked Coach L to get it to Jay and Antonio too. I doubt they've seen it in a long time. Dan Cummins got right back to me with some nostalgic laughter.
I put a copy of it up on google video.... for whatever reason.

Speaking of that 97 team... TG found the archive of press releases from that season and sent it over to me.
Check it out... it goes in reverse order...

The Akron game at Anderson that season is one of my favorite memories... Jay going 9 - 12 from beyond the arc and finishing with 40... Antonio in a supporting role with 30.... wow... what a backcourt.... would love to have a shooter like Jay again... just someone who can light it up whenever and isn't afraid to pull the trigger.... well, like Bubba.

Man, Grant, that was awesome to look back at those old box scores.
Look at those NAMES!
Anthony Stacey
Antonio Daniels
Earl Boykins
Wally Szerbiak
Ira Newble
Bonzi Wells
As poor as we've been the last 5 years, the entire MAC has really followed suit. There isn't even close to that level of talent in the conference anymore. The sad fact is other "mid major" conferences have made a larger commitment to hoops than the MAC and we're seeing that with the overall lack of talent in the conference. It's also keeping us from getting multiple bids.
I really hope to see, in the not too distant future, BG return to those days, but I'd like to see the conference as a whole get back there as well.

Grant,
I sent this to Jay and Antonio and Antonio's mom. Everyone loved it. Thanks. Coach L.
