Tulsa Head Coach Todd Graham...
I called you classless in sarcasm. Or was attempting to anyway.
I understand your perspective, I really do.
But from my perspective we had a reason to do what we did and further more... we did NOT run up the score. We had something like 65 yards of offense in the 4th QT (I posted the stat previously, too lazy to find it again - sorry) less than half of our average. We throttled it back a ton since we normally have a really strong 4th QT attack (our offense is designed to wear down the other team, which usually works... unless they are simply better than us - then it gets ugly. OU). We were not trying to crush you - as I have explained above.
But more importantly, and the reason I posted the stats from above:
What do you think Temples perspective is on that? Do you think they said "well, they didn't try to score 63 on us, we just suck that bad" or do you think some of them were pissed? When you beat down a team that bad some people are going to be upset and cry foul, that's all there is to it. Regardless of the circumstances - because those don't really matter to the poor bastard getting embarrassed.
but I do understand your perspective and can't say I wouldn't be calling BS myself. And, I'm sure, you'd be defending your team. Sports fans will be sports fans...

I started to look it up the other day, just looking at the last 3 scores of 40+ point wins in the Brandon era... against EKU/Liberty/SEMO, we did throw a bit, including some long TD's late, but it was with backups. (Okay, so the backup was named "Omar Jacobs", but he was still a RS Freshman at the time.)
The Temple games, as someone mentioned, involved running and def/special teams.
In 2005, we passed the ball TWICE in the SECOND HALF. And one of those was a 3rd and 12. I don't think we threw the ball at all on the last two or three possessions of the game, and still scored running the ball up the middle.
In 2006, the last three scores were a run, an INT return by Antonio Smith, and Corey's punt return with 10 men on the field.
The Findlay game in '21? They said something about Orrville Raberding's mother. They're lucky we didn't put up 200.
The EMU game WAAAYYY back then was actually a loss.
As for the blowouts going the other way, the Fresno State game was thanks to a coach bailing for another job the week before the bowl game. Talk about your distractions. We don't hate Fresno State. We hate Denny Stolz.

Temple was getting destroyed by everyone in 2004 and 2005, so I don't think their fans perspective would be any different each week. I noticed you haven't answered about your defense. Why would they continue to blitz in the 4th?
Unfortunately they do not keep records of what plays were blitzes. It is entirely possible that we continued to destroy your offensive line and get penetration without an actual blitz. It is also possible that our linebackers read the play and made a decision to go after the ball. Are we not supposed to stop you on defense either?
At what point do we have to stop playing? When we are up by 35 do we stop scoring AND stop playing defense? Funny that Temple couldn't score even when you stopped playing defense.

Anyway, it is clear that you intend to play the victim here no matter what facts and circumstances are pointed out. When you destroy someone it is because they suck, when we do it is because we are big bad meanies. I've attempted to explain it to you, I've attempted to sympathize, but some of you just don't want to hear it. The only reason I bother posting is because I respect your fan base and hated to see you all so upset.
But have it your way. Big mean Tulsa destroyed Bowling Green because our coach, players, administration, fans and city are just that harsh. Poor little Bowling Green (with 20,000 more students) was defenseless and could do nothing to stop it. Luckily, BG found a second wind and held the bully to less than 50% of their average 4 QT yards to save face on national TV (clearly the only explanation).
If that makes you feel any better, run with it. most of your fans remain reasonable, but this outspoken minority's continued whining degrades the entire fan base. Hope we don't have to play you in the near future, I'd hate to hurt your feelings again.
Tulsa v. Bowling Green , average margin of Tulsa's Victories: 45.5
Deal with it.

No one is trying to be the victim, it isn't about us.
It is about running up the score. I have seen 63-point wins that weren't running up the score and 35 point wins that were.
I know it when I see it, and the GMAC bowl was borderline if not a little more than that.
We win with class, our history proves it.
We would not have done the same if the situation was reversed, our history proves it.
It's a difference of opinion. I can take losing. I don't think it was a big deal. I believe your coach was trying his best to take care of his own players. He just did it at the expense of a chance to be classy.
Period.
Go ahead and try and force that margin of victory down our throats, it rings hollow and doesn't have anywhere near the painful effect you might think it does.
Anyhow, let us bitch on our own board. Seriously, let it go. Here, your argument loses.

I just think we need to drop this issue. I don't care what Tulsa's fans think, or what anyone elses fans think. You guys shouldn't either. That game was not typical falcon football, and everyone on this board should know that. As far as the "fans" who say they won't follow the team anymore, or won't wear BG colors b/c of the last game of the season, you're either part of the problem or part of the solution...Pick a side and be strong. It was in 1992 or 1993 (Mr Freak, I'm sure you remember the game), Navy beat us, and had many cheap shots during that game. You know what happened in 1994 when we played Navy? Before the game, coach made the team watch a "high-light" film the night before the game. No "pep-talk" was needed. We basically handed Navy their asses back to them after the game. And a great game it was! As for Tulsa, I hope we play them again. I'm sure the team does as well. Heck, our best receiver only had 1 hand. We were missing several defensive positions. It wasn't a typical BGSU team out there. We have THE best football program in the MAC! Sure, not every year is the best, but BG has one hell of a program and facility.

We lost in 1993 27-20, I believe, to Navy. In '94, BG won 59-21. I remember Blackney suspending about 6-8 players in the '93 game for violating team rules.
I am now done with everything associated with this past Sunday's game. I just hope we get another shot at Todd Graham whether it's Tulsa or another school.
GO BG!~

Hey I just wanted to register and tell you how impressed I am with how calm you guys have been overall. After the game I figured about 90% of Bowling Green fans were going to hate us for keeping the starters in to get the records. Usually when one of my favorite teams gets blown out I'm so disappointed in my team that the fact that the score was ran up a little doesn't bother me, it just makes me more mad that my team gave up. But even I was uncomfortable when we attempted to throw a 40 yard bomb to Clay with about 9 minutes left. I can understand trying to get a guy his record, but there are better ways to do it. I didn't see the whole thing as totally classless, but it wasn't exactly classy either.
Anyway, I just thought I would compliment the levelheadedness of your fans, because I can guarantee you that a lot of our fans that are defending our coach, would be absolutely livid if it was the other way around. You guys obviously have a high football IQ. Good luck next year. Your team is undoubtedly better than they played in the bowl game. I'm sure if we played again, it would be a much different game.

I believe this, too. At least over the last month of the season, and at times during the front part of the season, we were a much better team. I think the stage and getting down early might have done some nasty things, and the true BG never got to come out.TulsaGuy wrote:Your team is undoubtedly better than they played in the bowl game.

It all makes sense now. As I read the new issue of Sports Illustrated yesterday there was a little, tiny sentence, in little tiny print that said the Tulsa QB broke a record. So all you BG fans who are complaining understand now that this kid got mentioned in SI (its in there, you just have to look real hard)which makes running up that score worthwhile.

Temple games
You guys might want to say you just ran the ball up the middle in the second halfs of the Temple games... but you didn't. There we plenty of passes and I remember several starters deep into the third qrt. If you want to say you put the breaks on in the 50's or 60's then yes. IF miami of florida and West virginia, etc can keep it under 50 so could BG. If you don't want to score touchdowns you call of the hounds. BG is the last team in the country to complain up running up the score.
Sorry to see it happen to you guys I was cheering for the MAC. I also certainley know what it feels like. NExt year should be a fun one in the MAC.
