Honest Opinions on the New Logo/Font for BGSU

Post by thewebboy »

I believe this a huge step not only for BGSU athletics but also BGSU as a whole. The new font is more sleek and up-to-date, and the new retail logo I think will attract more sales of BGSU merchandise. As long as we do not abandon the original logo altogheter, it should work out for the better. All in all I think i would have to say this is a great move for an up and coming university like BG !! What do u all think??

I think it's great they're striving to build a fluent identity system, and I love the font.

With that said, I think they could have done more work on the new logo, and I'm not a big fan of having an outline around the traditional logo.

The only thing I DON'T like about the new campaign is that font...it's like a weird rear-serif thing. Just looks hokey to me. I love the updated logo with the beak and the eye and colors. I think that's really cool! Just don't like the font....

Not sure which thread I should post this in.

I'm ok with the change to the old logo, but can honestly say that I will never buy an item with the new logo on it. ::puke::

I think they will eventually replace the current logo with the new bird head logo if it "sells" well. While I do like the new one, I really HATE the idea of losing the current one. As I stated before, I think the current logo is one of the most unique logos in all of college sports...or any sport for that matter.

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

We now have, basically, two logos.

It's up to US to decide which logo stays on the uniforms and is the most recognized logo. Start buying things JUST with the old logo.

Let the free market decide, kids. And we make more money than the students do! :D

FF, I am with you...I really like the new "media" logo, but I really hope that they do not dump the traditional one. I think it is cool to have the "minimalist" logo on the uniforms, and then have the colored one on shirts, posters, etc. I think it will help others out side of the BG family "get" what the sports logo is.

I am kind of fond of the font.

I like the font that they chose. With the slant and the "wings" on the letters, it give the appearance of being in motion or something, or like it has some attitude about it. (Just the oppositte of the incredibly generic, lame, ugly font the Browns use. :x ) And I do like having some color in the logo for something different. I like how the eye really stands out and with the brown across the face, it sort of looks like a mask. Like it is being mischievious or something. Again, that seems to add a little attitude to the logo and I like that. :D

That's called tradition, they're supposed to be boring  lol

I do love the BG font though, I know Grant doesn't like it, but I like the reverse serif look.

But tradition went out the window with the team moving to Baltimore. I was really disappointed that when the Browns, rel 2.0, came along, that they didn't try to take advantage of a marketing opportunity (just as we are now), and come up with a sleek new font or something.

I like both....the original will always be the best but I like the new direction for the secondary logo. I think the font is ok....nothing special.

In the end, it's all BOWLING GREEN. And everything is still orange and brown. :D

I am torn. I like the traditional logo, but realize we need to market our program and make things look "cool" so stuff will sell.
I was looking at a catalog the other day, and they had a page with a bunch of the mini-helmets. They had all the "big" schools, and Miami and Toledo were there, too. But no BG. We should be right there with them, and maybe this update helps get us there (?)
Also, does anyone else think the MAC bird-school logos look similar? Are they using one template?

I posted the link to the new logo over at soonerfans.com just to get some outsiders opinion. FWIW, they like the new logo better than the old one. :?

A hawk and a falcon are VERY similar birds. It sure as hell doesn't look like a cardinal!!!
