Best of all, if he had an offer from the Air Force Academy Falcons, that means he has a very good head on his shoulders for academics.

This all goes back to those posts I made last week about why I don't like the NFL nearly as much as college football. But now we are talking about size & speed THIS much in college football? BARFFFFFFFF. Hopefully he is a damn football player because that is all that matters. I really don't give a crap how fast he runs in a straight line for 40 yards, what his bench press is, or what his hips do. Are you kidding me? This is football, not track/weightlifting/dance. What matters is how good he can read plays, if he can put himself in position to make the plays, and then have the mental & physical tools to make the plays. With mental totally outweighing physical in that last one. And no I do not mean we should measure his GPA or SAT score to find out if he has the mental toughness to play the game or that position is.

Next thing you know people will be saying I'm a great bowler because I'm 6'1 and have good kinestic awareness. Uh no, maybe it's because I've practiced since I was about age 5 & have the mental drive to perform in big game situations. Not sure that is an analogy many of you will get, but it was meant as a partial joke & partial truth for those of you who know what it takes to be the anchor on a bowling team in any competitive league with cash prizes.
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!

That is simply way to slow for a CB. His weight ain't problem really he can beef up but that speed is a bigger deal when your in the secondary.
The best CB we've had here the last 10-15 years or so (Jannsen Patton) ran a 4.6ish 40 on his pro day.
I thought Patton was a safety , oh whatever I just hope he's quick enough , fast enough or whatever to be able to play the position well.
As I've posted before: A "track" 4.6 is pretty much blazing. A "football" 4.6 is sloooow. Let's all hope that his time is a football 4.6. ;-)

Why don't you guys get off of those 40 yd times and wise up to reality. Most of those posted times are pure fiction. When you get down into the mid 40s, you're talking about State Sprint champion times, and there aren't than many of them around --- and certainly they're not all going to BG. If you said 5 seconds, I'd believe it.

You do realize that the argument over the imprtance of listed 40 times is pretty much limited to you and falconboy....I'd be ecstatic if you'd both just shut up about it, but then there wouldn't be as many new posts to read.

So...carry on, I guess... :-)

Well, Mr. Flipper, if the 40 yd time wasn't important, it wouldn't be included in every recruits lists of stats. The point is, too many people get excited, lathered up over this particular stat. And I'm simply pointing out that most of those numbers are fabricated. That is, they're simply not true. And as as someone who has worked in this area for many year, I'm in a position to know. I've timed hundreds of kids in the 40 and nobody ever came close to 4.6. There are guys out there that can do it; there are guys out there that are faster. They are few, however, and far between. ----- This stat seens to be as important as anything else that you attach to a recruit. What if somebody came along and said -- and this QB completed 90 per cent of his passes. Would you let that get by?

Please...call me Dr Flipper...I went through an imaginary four years of med school to earn that pretend name and I think it ought to be used as a professional courtesy fronm one pretend Dr to another.

I don't think anyone here get's lathered up over anything...well other than Jessica ALba and the new American Gladiators show. 40 times get listed here because they get listed by the services...the ONLY person you will ever hear on this board making a comment about a kid being slow based on a listed 40 time is falconboy. In his world everyone is either too short, too slow or too light. Unlike Goldilocks, he never finds anything that is just right. But...if you want to argue with him and so forth, go right ahead I won't disturb you about it again...well I might if I'm bored...or cranky.

Well, Dr. Flipper, I find y ou insulting and can't understand how it is that a physician could find time to play games on a web like this. No, I don't have an MD, but I have two master degrees (in entomologyh and physiology), taught marine biology in the Bahamas for years and chaired a science department that produced over 270 practicing physicians who are active today. I have six in Med School right now. I've coached track and field for most of my life, and was a backfield coach in football for many years as well. I am also in two athlatic halls of fame. So I've practiced what I preach. ---- I thought this web was for honest dialogue, not name calling. -- End of topic

I find the 40 time the most overrated stat for any football player. What a kid can do with full pads on...that's what I want to know.

Just my 2 cents on that.

Doc...doc... doc... I didn't call you any names. I'm simply trying to point out to you that for all intents and purposes...or even intensive purposes..no one on this board, save one single solitary person, disagrees with you about the importance of 40 times. The point is moot...it might even be considered mute by some. You don't care...we don't care, so there isn't any point in harping on it.

I'm feeling a bit nostalgic for 80's rap...instead of calling me "Dr," could you start calling me "Grandmaster"?

BTW, Doc...you should post more...someone with an actual background in coaching could probably give us neophytes some some pretty valuable insights.

For example, is it wise to rry to run so many one back sets with wee little running backs like Geter and Ransom. Don't they need a bigger back like Bullock to play the bulk of the time with Ransom and Geter offering a change of pace?

Pish Posh.

I have a PhD in astrophysics as well as a certification from the Gemological Institute of America. I have taught the popular course “25 Ways to Close a Sale” on the Yucatan peninsula for 20 years and have trained a generation of goat herders. During my illustrious track coaching career, I’ve unintentionally impaled at least 12 people with javelins, and I’ve also coached gunners on record-breaking NAIA punt coverage teams. I belong to three Halls of Fame and have busts in six wax museums.

Beat that!
