I made it to the IceArena renovation meeting; what was the outcome of the Convo meeting?
What are they planning to build, what are they planning to spend?

The Convo is a 36 million dollar project and everything is in the very early stages. Nothing major has been set as far as the capacity (leanings towards around 5k) and configuration of the arena. They're even still going over the the exact site of where to build. At the session I attended on Tues. they had a mock photo of the Ice Arena from the far end looking towards the entrance of the arena with a Video Board at that end. The graphic of the Convo was just a preliminary one and the convo may not look exactly like what I saw but it was interesting. The graphic had the roof rather high and reminiscent of Butlers but on a much smaller scale. GC said that there probably wouldn't be seeing huge luxury boxes or suites in the convo as there is little to no demand for it. But many ideas/questions were thrown out.

Something to ponder if this is something big in your mind or not was the seating configuration as it pertains to either bench or chair. The graphic mock up of the convo had what looked like the entire arena in chairbacks which I didn't think would be a good idea. GC pointed out later that the likely place for bench seats would be the Student Section. I'm sure others who where there could point out other things I missed or can't remember.

I've always wondered, and this may be a great place to get the answer from the construction experts, how can a figure such as $36 million be determined for a project that seemingly has not determined an absolute seating capacity, design or many other major components? What formula would have been used to determine this figure?

Not that I'm suggesting they're wrong. Just wondering.

They tell the architects how much they have to spend and then they design it with that in mind. My guess is that they use similar projects as a base to work from. As was mentioned, nothing is very firm yet, including the capacity, but 5000 is a working figure.
