Falcons pull it out!!!

Post by Falconfreak90 »

BG gets by NIU in the last minute.

Joe Jakubowski had a huge steal and layup with about a minute left to give BG a one point lead. Then he hit 1 of 2 FT's to push the lead to 61-59.

BG came up with the BiG D stand at the end to win it...Nate Miller got a huge steal and slammed this puppy home!!!!
BG wins 63-59!!!

9-9, 4-2 MAC.

Statistically, it looked like one of the cleanest games we've played in a long time. Low turnovers, VERY low fouls (until the strategic ones at the end) and pretty decent shooting percentages all around. (Almost 80% from the line!)

The exclamation point at the end was a nice finish, too. :-D

The refs called NOTHING. It wasn't that clean of a game... they just called NOTHING. One NIU player fouled out... he had 5 and, at the time, there had only been 4 other fouls in the entire game!

Joe Jak, Nate, Chris Knight... great games!!

But guys... how about a PASS on a fast break??!?! huh? Once? Maybe?? ;-)

Also of interest, thanks to the sharp eye of Ryan Autullo, we got to see Austin Calhoun at the game. Pretty good one for him to see.

How did he look? Did he walk straight enough? Was he tall enough? Is he good for 15 and 10 every night? God, I hope so. Did he eat popcorn? What color were his pants!?!?! :P

Honestly, that's just the way basketball is played in Bowling Green IMO, at all skill levels. I play pickup at the BG SRC all the time, and whenever there's a fast break off a steal/bad pass, etc, the player with the ball NEVER, EVER gives the ball up unless they are down 14-13 needing a 2-pointer (3-point shot) to win. You could be trailing, or wide open on the baseline and they just won't pass it, not even if they are driving into triple coverage.

I actually ended up in such a situation yesterday. The game was tied at 11-11 and I was driving into a doubleteam. I kicked out to the man at the top of the key, only to have the ball hit him in the chest and drop to the floor. The other team eventually scored on the following possession. Evidently, he was stunned that I passed the ball. :?

But ah, that's completely off the topic. Great win today by the guys. Who would have thought the guys would be running neck and neck with the ladies during in-conference play?

Lovvvvvvve it!

I caught the second half rolling US 6 East, south of BG. Joe Jak, Miller, Knight. Seems like someone else always gets in the mix each week. Moten, Clements, Polk, Larson. Just great ball. It's exciting again. 1/3 of the way through the MAC schedule and they are 4-2 with wins over OU and Miami. And the two loses were @ Akron and @ Kent - I'll take that. Oh yeah, there is only ONE team with a better conference record!

Long way to go, but it is great to be relevant again. AZZ!
