WMU gets by BG... :(
What a game at AA between BG and WMU...back and forth, up and down the court. WMU pulls it out down the stretch, 79-73. BG is now 15-6, 4-3 MAC, and will head north on 75 to take on TSUN Sat at 2:30. Time to snap a 3 game losing streak and who better to do it against?

How many time do you see a team get 20 offnesive rebounds and the opposing team have 27 turnovers and we still lose the game? Strange! Western's point guard also had double figures in turnovers! WOW!
Our lack of depth (playing time) behind Tara is really showing right now. If she isn't in the game we are really struggling.

Man, most of my enthusiasm for the men's great start in conference play is being sapped because of how poorly the women are playing all of a sudden. This stinks.
A loss to Toledo, and IMO, this team is no longer a contender for the conference title. 3 straight losses in conference and 2 straight at AA?! Really? I realize this sounds really harsh for such a young team, but after that 4-0 start, I kinda thought we'd roll through everybody again. Now that the ladies are losing, its tough to take because of its unexpectedness.

what enthusiasm?bgsufalcon24 wrote:Well, these are the types of games that you have to win to be a successful team in this conference. Every win is nice, but honestly, I'm not that impressed. Look at the team we beat, they were 3-15 coming in, now 3-16. Pardon me if I don't exactly feel thrilled about beating a team as pathetic as Ball State.

This is what happens when you continue to shoot under 40% from the field and must rely on Kate and Lauren to play 40 minutes. Going forward, we have to develop some depth and find a way to get some better looks at the basket.
I agree completely with J4H that this team has more potential for growth and improvement than anyone else in the MAC. The rest of the conference better get them now while they can.

That sounds like a "you" problem.bgsufalcon24 wrote: I kinda thought we'd roll through everybody again. Now that the ladies are losing, its tough to take because of its unexpectedness.
This shouldn't really be that unexpected. A very young team who's best player and veteran leader is playing hurt. We'll be fine.
Roll Along!
On the plus side, Jen Uhl did an awesome job last night.
I know it sounds irrational to put things on the refs' shoulders, but they were horrendous and just when we started to climb into the lead baldy shot us down hard. He made one call on a blocking foul where one of our players, Golds I think, was planted firmly in the WMU players path and was run over on the way to the basket. The look on the blond ref's face after that confirmed what we all thought about that call. When your colleagues are rolling their eyes at you, you are calling a poor game.

You can isolate poor calls and you can also isolate layups, three-footers, and free-throws that just as easily could have and should have been made. I understand your frustration, as I have been in the same boat. But once I started looking at poor calls like poor offensive execution it all starts to make sense and "even out" so to speak. The Niz wrote:On the plus side, Jen Uhl did an awesome job last night.

On the small side but very loud. Poor student showing, probably because of the cold. It hurt to go outside yesterday.
At least we know if we had another minute we would have won

something needs to happen with this team soon. I understand Kate's injury and I understand that we are loaded with Freshmen who still need to experience growth but the bottom has just fallen out the last 3 games. How do you go from railing opponents to losing to lesser opponents (yes, Ball State's loss was understandable and even tollerable...but they aren't BETTER than us at all) in a snap of the fingers? While the girls were beating the bajesus out of other teams, they were getting great performances from most of the roster. I'd like to think that we've all seen enough out of the support players to know that when Kate isn't 100%, there is more than enough behind her to still be able to win a ball game.
The one huge positive is that we've got the right people on the coaching staff. They will get the ship back on the right course.

The worst part about this recent slide is that it suggests hard times ahead next year once Achter is gone. Evidently, the ladies can't win when she's not 100%. How are they going to win games with her gone next year? That's something Curt Miller has to figure out.

Come on, this is ridiculous. I understand that everyone has high expectations for our women, especially after the good start that they had, but this "the bottom has fallen out" stuff is dumb. Maybe it's because I'm in the business and only get to coach freshman and sophmores, but you have to understand that no matter how good they are, there are going to be ups and downs. It usually goes in spurts. They might lose three games in a row, maybe a couple more, but they will win again, and then the streak will probably go the other way. There is too much talent on this team to not go back the other way. Trust me, it could be worse. Your best player (Kodak All-American as a freshman) could be ineligible all year and then transfer, the point guard tears her acl, another kid is lazy on the floor and off, and you are stuck playing three kids that usually wouldn't play unless it was mop up time. Trust me, what the lady Falcons are going through is nothing. At least they are in line to make the playoffs and have a shot at winning the conference. Just give this very young team some time to grow and go through the ups and downs. The bottom hasn't fallen out, the expectations were just too high from the fans.
