THAT was good to see last night. Not only do the brown road unis look SWEEEEEET, but once they woke up, I thought BG played really well. (Late FT issues aside, as mentioned.) Moten had some great moves to the basket, and I love watching Nate Miller out there, he looks like he's just having fun every possession.

Play of the night, for me, was listening to BSU's band count down the shot clock to 10 as if it were running out... Miller looked like he looked up at the clock, then backed it back out. As the band patted themselves on the back, he drained a long jumper and smiled the whole way down the floor.

Line of the night, was every time Jakubowski touched the ball, the band chanted "You're not Steve Nash!" At one point, a guy in front of me turned to his friend and said "he's playing like him tonight!" JJ also had a sweet drive and finger roll in the second half.

About the band... they were amusing. Even if their taunts were a little off (see above), they were into the game the whole way, chanting and yelling and whatnot. But they have them sitting in the top corner of the arena. Meanwhile, about a dozen kids are standing in the student section, clapping occasionally. Worthen Arena looks pretty from the outside, but inside feels ridiculously empty. Not only that, but it's laid out horribly. We walked up from the main parking lot, up the stairs to the first gate to greet us, and were told we had to go back out and around to the next gate down to buy tickets. So we head back out and over to the next entrance, up the stairs, and were told we had to go downstairs to buy tickets. At that point, we probably should have just laid low for a minute, then headed into the game, but for once in my life,I did the honorable thing.

tiz.. nice to meet you, too... it wasn't hard to pick out the BG fans in the crowd last night... in hindsight, I wish we would have headed over to where you were sitting. Watching Coach Orr coach, even from across the floor, is a much different experience than what we'd gotten used to.

TG,

That was great when Miller hit that shot. The band did think they had fooled him. I also heard the chant of "Cut your hair" when JJ had the ball. They where given Otis a hard time as well.

BSU's website said it was $2 to park. I got charged $5. I was a little steamed about that. I got over my initial anger when an nice elderly man asked me if I needed a ticket and just gave me one. He said it was too cold for his wife to come out. Your also right about the stadium layout.

I got there about 6:20 and just sat behind the BG bench. I talked to the team driver a little bit during the game.

The announced attendance was 3,200. That might have been a little generous.

I'm not ruling it out just yet either. I've always wanted to go up there for a game, mainly to hit up Bell's Brewery (one of the best breweries in the country, IMO).

It will at least partially depend on how much of the supposed "snow event" we actually get.

I figured there'd be a charge of some sort, so I was glad it was $5 and not $10.

That's another thing about the arena... I parked just about as close as I could (I think, there was another lot that I thought was blocked off, but a lot of people were heading toward after the game.) and still walked at least as far as I do at BG, parking five or six rows back in the lot behind the health center. And PAID for the privilege.

That's ironic. When I took the Freaklings to Kent and Akron, Josh said "That one player (JJ) looks like Steve Nash!". You see, Josh is a BiG SN fan and so am I. I love the way that guy plays.

And if this season is any indication of what JJ is capable of doing, I think our future looks very bright from the PG position. I sat next to JJ's mom at the Kent game and she is a very nice lady. I also saw her at the Akron game.

JJ....keep it going, man. Nothing like shutting up the opposition with your play!

Star always does a nice job reporting BSU sports. I love that you don't get one color picture on page 1 and maybe a small B&W on the second page like the Blade does.

Look at the team we beat, they were 3-15 coming in, now 3-16. Pardon me if I don't exactly feel thrilled about beating a team as pathetic as Ball State.

Now if we roll into Kalamazoo and take down WMU this weekend, THAT would be extremely impressive. I might have to consider us a contender for the conference title if we pull that off.
24, you really need to get over this expectation of perfection that you seem to have for every team that you root for. With all due respect, shut up, understand where this team has come from, where everyone expected it to be, and where it is currently at. Enjoy the ride. This type of season is what makes being a sports fan so fulfilling.
Based on this post, it looks like you're the one without any expectations. Based on your response and the response of this forum to this particular game, it seems like you all thought BG was going to lose this game. Expectation of perfection? If that's what you call it, yes, I expect our teams to beat other schools that are 3-15. I really don't think that's too much to ask. If you do, that's fine I respect your opinion, but I won't understand it because to me it seems like your expectations are so low that it's insulting to the team. It was insulting to the guys to have the majority of their true fans think they were going to lose to 3-15 Ball State. They're better than that.

I realize that you've all been waiting on a men's hoops winner since the Hammb days when AA would be rocking with 5000+ every night, but come on. Show a little faith in the guys. We were having this problem during the football season too, with people expecting losses to teams like Akron, Toledo, and especially Buffalo! I expected them to win this game against BSU, and yet I'm the one with the problem? If that's true, than it's no wonder why our attendance is so bad and school spirit is in the toilet. Everybody expects us to lose all the time and I'm sick of it! I'm sick of other students and our faculty being so down about our athletic programs all the time!

That's why I hope for us to do well, to prove all the haters wrong.

It's good to see Moten have a big game. The added confidence is what he really needs. His shooting can make a big difference for our success this year.

We had another Madlock sighting! I'll be very happy if he's in the rotation by the end of the year.

Sims didn't get off of the bench.

It's great to get any road win. However, like 24, I do expect to beat a 3-15 team on their floor. While I enjoy the win, it's something that should just happen. There'd be a lot of disappointment on this board if we hadn't beat a team like Ball State. Do we not hold our team to a decent standard? If not, what the hell are we doing on this board?

I very much expected us to win this game, but at the same time I'm glad they did. Am I going to shout from the rooftops about a landmark victory? No, not in the least. I am, however, impressed that our guys went on the road to a place they should win and controlled the game for a double digit lead most of the night.

In the past our teams haven't been winning these games, or not so easily. I cannot help but be excited as I've watched the last month or so as this group has really started to fit into Orr's system. We're still not the most talented team in the conference (far from it), but we're starting to play some good team basketball. We haven't done that in quite awhile, so pardon some of us for being excited about it.

It's a good change of pace that we actually start WINNING the games that we're expected to win. As tiz said, and I earlier. It's exciting to go to the games again. I actually find myself looking forward to them...hell I'm considering a road trip to K-zoo this weekend.

On a more practical note, Hamblet's dismissal could have been the best thing that happened to us this season because it got Jakubowski into the starting lineup. That guy is truly something, a true point with an ability to score from deep. He's got better ball handling skills than anybody I've seen play here, perhaps even better than Kate Achter, though its hard to compare. This team will go as far as he takes us, ultimately.

I have to admit to being a bit surprised to see Madlock enter in the first half. But good to see. I didn't see him do anything spectacular, but he held his own pretty well. Not to sound falconboyesque, but they need to up that kid's meal plan!

But I agree, they seem to be bringing him along slowly, though he's starting to see more minutes as the season rolls on.

He was the only bright spot against UA. He hasn't had much time to work with since then.
