You have to give O'Drobinak a lot of credit for being a one year player at a position, and being earmarked as the biggest loss on that side of the ball. His service was appreciated.
Bottom line for me is when will we see consistency on either side of the ball? I'd like to see our offense develop Willie Geter as a huge asset and weapon. It's a perfect fit if you want to spread out and play four WR, and Geter in the back field. It's not possible to cover him with a LB. On Defense, it's hard to say. I don't think we're likely to see such an improvement that we go away from a "bend don't break" style. But there's certainly room to be reasonably positive with Mahone and The Doze back. I'll even add Antonio Smith to that list despite some of the criticism that he gets on this board. Those three are a strong foundation. I'm also excited to see how/if Angelo Magnone develops. There really is a lot to be positive about if there's a bit more consistency out of the players.
So let's move on to predictions...Directly off the top of my head...
Sheehan...Better this year than last, potential MAC offensive player of the year.
Partridge...Same level that he's contributed before, several highlight reel catches, particularly against the bigger opponents early on, won't play every game but will play most.
Turner...Will have a better season than last, will play virtually every position on the field on offense. Will have every commentator in the country predicting a NFL career as an athlete. Will probably be a second day draft pick.
Superstar Freddie Barnes...Crowded WR ranks with Turner and Partridge, will contribute solid numbers. Will flirt with move to CB.
The Doze...Will be the spine of the BG defense, significant contributions, will need to because of lack of personnel around him.
Mahone...MAC defensive player of the year, 10 interceptions, 3 returned for touchdowns. Absolutely a revelation, will become as legendary on defense as Josh Harris did on offense.
A. Smith...Improved play, will be a shut down corner that takes even more chances than this year, will be flamed continuously for it on AZZ. That is balanced by a few big plays, including two titanic hits with time winding down to get the BG offense the ball back. Did I mention flamed continuously on AZZ?
Coach Brandon...Will come in for more abuse than he did this year despite getting to the MAC title game and losing. Will completely misuse Willie Geter, running the ball as often a I visited the library while at BG (not much). Will coach following season, be replaced at the end of it.
Just a few thoughts...

Your predictions are very, dare I say, intriguing. But some of them are also highly unlikely/stupid.
Freddie Barnes to CB? Come on now, even as much as he changes guys from O to D and D to O, Gregg Brandon isn't that dumb.
Lack of personnel around Dozier at LB? Dude, LB is going to be our strongest position on D with Dozier, Haneline, and Stanley. 3 solid to excellent defenders there. It's the D-Line that needs a ton of work.
Here's another random prediction though, The Stripper (aka Kenny Lewis) will strip at least 4 balls away from opposing offensive players in 2008, and he'll return 2 of them for TD.
Bonus prediction: I won't have to flame Zach Charles anymore for dropping punts, because he transferred.

Meant the defense in general, and it's been discussed by our coaching staff before moving Barnes to CB.bgsufalcon24 wrote:Your predictions are very, dare I say, intriguing. But some of them are also highly unlikely/stupid.

Well hopefully if he is going to play CB, he'll be going both ways.Columbus_Zak wrote:Meant the defense in general, and it's been discussed by our coaching staff before moving Barnes to CB.bgsufalcon24 wrote:Your predictions are very, dare I say, intriguing. the d-cord wanted freddie to play safety not corner and it was in a jokingly way. he's not going anywhere. also, geter will get less carries next year due to ransom being back. he was clearly the most talented rb before he got hurt. antonio smith couldnt cover a beached whale and never will be able to, the guy just doesnt have very good agility. the linebackers will be solid, we have GREAT depth there with stanley, jerson davis, brandon jackson and eugene fells. i expect tyrone pronty to emerge as a big playmaker next year stepping in for marques parks. turner will not get drafted just because he's a "multiple threat" guy. where do u want him to play in the nfl?? running back? reciever? not a chance. but then again, these predictions are also coming from the guy who was all over freddie just because he rushed for 150 yards against wisconsin but also the same person who couldnt throw the ball into lake erie against kent state.

We gotta make sure Stanley is hitting the books. He stayed behind for the GMAC Bowl due to academics.
But I agree about our LB corps. With Bulldozier and Haneline back, we're looking solid there.
The season just ended a month ago and already I'm jazzed about 2008...especially with the recruits we're bringing in.

Well since we are making player predictions... I will say Eric Ransom comes back fired up and ready to play..... cory freddie ransom turner geter and kelly in in four and five reciever sets ... that will leave some D coord. in the MAC with sleepless nights
Although I must admit I think next year is the year of the Cardinal Nate Davis will have pro scouts drooling
