IDEAS FOR BG BASKETBALL PROGRAM
i will avoid the whole dakick topic and focus on the bg basketball program.
the arena issue
-i feel that a new "convo center" will never happen so i have been thinking about more realistic solutions.
1.renovate anderson arena
-this place has a great atmosphere
-remove north wall and bring 2 levels of seats all the way around the arena
-replace existing scoreboard and audio system
-give the interior of arena a new look, paint, seats, to go with new banners
-on 2nd level add luxury boxes on west side and east side improve the quality and size of press row
-south level upper deck put in permanent seating
-remove all classrooms and rotc from building and make andersona b-ball only facility(use space for expansion of arena and new lockerooms)
-university could possibly add long talked about parking garage to exterior of anderson(increase attendance)
this would be a major expenditure for the university but would also be alot cheaper than a new building
-with additional seating bgsu could attract more concerts and other events....wrestling, boxing...etc.
looking forward to hearing others ideas and change the town of this forum to positives.........go bg

i am a big fan of the atmosphere at anderson arena
i look at ohio state, they had a great atmosphere at st johns arena and then they moved to the schott and that is all gone now in the large "nba" type arena. i dont think that bg could ever fill a larger arena and they would lose the home court advantage that anderson gives this team.

Not bad idea
I think MotorCity's idea insn't bad at all. We definilty would need a parking garage somewhere. We could use one now probably. I don't think adding on to Anderson would necesarrily hurt the atmospher at all. I it could probably improve on it somewhat. Anyway if no new convo is on the way, then renovating Anderson is a must as far as I am concerned.

One improvement I would love to see is a new lighting system. The ones we have now are terrible! If we got new lights, the media would not have to use flashes on their cameras or the strobe flashes in the rafters. Then DD would not have to walk out on the court during games and yell at me for his players not being able to see when they are shooting the basketball
He was kind enough to apologize after the game though so he's still alright in my book!

I'd love to see it bigger as well. However, it never fills up now so why spend money making it bigger when there are so many other improvements it needs first? Maybe then with the improvements people might start wanting to be there and then as the crowd gets bigger, then increase the capacity. IMO, I rather have a small filled up arena over a huge empty one.

i agree with you, but the renovations that i am suggesting would increase the max attendance by maybe 1,500, if you were going to completely renovate might as well get rid of the wall and make AA a complete csquare around the court.. it could be a great environment... keep the tradition and intimidation facotr of AA with some modern comforts..
i also propose that maybe antonio would like the luxury box/ club seat area named after him????? cmon antonio we love ya$$$$$

or section 33 in honor of his brother
i love the football program but an AA project should be higher on the priority list than the SAC.. it is not our fault that the field house is a waste of space and that should have been built closer to the stadium with football locker rooms and weight rooms for all sports included. so glad we have that for our track programs ........oh wait what mens track team???

I like this plan. I prefer it to a new building.MotorCityChamps wrote:i will avoid the whole dakick topic and focus on the bg basketball program.

Memorial Hall was built with federal funds. ROTC will be in that building until we no longer offer an ROTC program.
Look for the FIRST parking garage to go up in the lot behind the Student Health Center. Should be under construction within 36 months (guess-timate).

I would like to see the lower west side be re-configured. The best seats in the house (center court) are missing for crying out loud! i know the players need a means to get to the locker rooms, but can't we do something so that we could at least have a full set of seats all the way across in the lower section?
