BG’s recruiting class rated #12 in the MAC by Rivals.com
The rankings don’t mean much on paper as we all know. But from what I can gather, our class was rated lower than almost all of the MAC because of two parts: One, we had the next to smallest class in pure numbers (18 ). Two, we failed to sign a 3, 4 or 5-star recruit. No MAC team signed a 5-star recruit but Kent State and Western Michigan each signed a 4-star recruit, while every school but BG, Buffalo and Northern Illinois (which are ranked 11-13, respectively) signed a 3-star recruit. The 3-star recruits by school are as follows: Toledo (5), Ohio (4), Akron (4), Ball State (2), Temple (2), Miami (1), Western Michigan (1), Central Michigan (1) and Eastern Michigan (1). The national ranking of our class per Rivals was #112. WMU’s class was rated top in the MAC at #66.

If you watch the video on our recruits you will have seen more game action involving those kids than ANYONE at rivals or scout. For the most part, they have no idea if the *** star kid that signs with WMU or CMU is any better than the ** kid hat signs with us.

I have always hated the star system. People are judging 18 year old boys on their athletic abilities. Many still have room to grow and develop as players. Kent's 4* is a prep school kid, and he may have academic baggage the school will have to deal with. As for WMU 4* kid, nothing on video looked that impressive to me, and Lane has more size just about the same 40 time. In 4 years we will then get to see who has the best recruiting class.
Those who can't do, teach. Those who can't teach, teach PE.

I agree, recruiting used to get me very exciting, but the reality is that our guys are so hit or miss that it just doesnt matter. It is almost more about development than anything else so following recruiiting is nearly pointless. Case in point our "next stud" DT DJ Young moved to OT.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:Ever since Brandon took over, we've had + offensive talent, and iffy defensive talent compared to our MAC brethren. I see no reason to believe that will change anytime soon no matter how many stars some website gives our recruits. I pay almost no attention to recruiting anymore.
Recruit star rankings dont mean anything.
James Lauranitus and Marcus Freeman were 2 star recruits. They are two of the best linebackers in the country. Five star recruits are busts a lot of times. Look at ND. Best class EVERY Year according to Rivals...and it got them a whopping 1 or 2 wins last year (I forget what their record was...they are irrelevant).
