that seems a bit drastic without knowing what the buyout is or if the school has options etc.bobio wrote:2011? Fire the AD and the Coach!!!! To actually reply to the thread instead of just ripping on Amnutz, I think it's a good thing we resigned him. There are times when we all sit back and critically evaluate any coach and we can find flaws, no matter what level he coaches at. My high school coach had many flaws, one being that he did not believe in passing the ball. We ran so often that the team would put 8 or 9 in the box, and when it was 3rd and 8, we would pass and be ineffective because our team just didn't pass. The line was not familiar to pass blocking, the QB hadn't seen the routes very much, and the receivers were not accustomed to running the routes effectively. Now, they have a coach that basically only passes, and the running plays are either broken plays or designed QB draws, with the occasional HB draw out of the shotgun formation that he only uses.
Brandon has done a fairly good job at what he is doing. Considering the '06 season, I consider the '07 season as a stride in the right direction. In '06, we were starting a very green QB that didn't belong at that position. AT is more of an athlete than a QB, and it showed. Sheehan is more of a passer, and it is the coaches ability to make these switches that singles him out as effective. 3 years is a long stretch, but I'm willing to give him the opportunity to improve this team to the next level. However, you must realize we are a MAC school, and thus we aren't going to be a huge powerhouse.

Lay off the meth, dude. 5-7 in consecutive seasons and I don't see it getting any easier for Tom these days with CMU, Ball State and WMU all coming back stronger in 08. And don't forget EMU is no gimme game.bobio wrote:2011? Fire the AD and the Coach!!!! I am not gonna waste any more time and money at the Doyt watching any more disappointment. Amstutz did well in his first 5 seasons but is beginning to show signs of Blackneyitis. I'm not convinced UT is returning to the top anytime soon.

Ah! We’re a MAC school. Now I get it! We’re supposed to embrace mediocrity, that’s right. Next time we get our ass kicked like we did against Miami or Tulsa, I’ll just remember that “we’ll never be a huge powerhouse.”footballguy51 wrote:However, you must realize we are a MAC school, and thus we aren't going to be a huge powerhouse.

I could be off base here, but am I the only one who senses a lot of sarcasm around bobio's post?
Yeah right girl!
Oorah!

Sorry Niz, not really sarcasm. I have never been even remotely impressed with GB. Those that are also think a fun night out is watching paint dry. I do, however, have a lot of fun getting a rise out of those who really think GB is the answer. It just isn't gonna happen. He is DD all over again, only without the personality.
Nice. So we have differing views, so you insult me. Generalize much?bobio wrote:I have never been even remotely impressed with GB. Those that are also think a fun night out is watching paint dry.
Well, I doubt you'll ever "get a rise" out of me by degrading GB.bobio wrote:I do, however, have a lot of fun getting a rise out of those who really think GB is the answer.
Enjoy, I guess.

Well, it's true. How many smaller conference schools have been consistent powerhouses year in and year out? Boise State was there, but they've fallen off a little. Utah was there before that, but now nobody really hears about them. If you're in a non-BCS conference, you have to hope you get an excellent coach that is really good at recruiting, convince him to stay at the smaller school that can't pay the BCS dollars, and hope that the national attention you gain from this makes higher profile bowl games swing your way and makes recruiting the bigger name players that much easier.

I think bobio is Tom Amstutz.
Toledo Tom is going to have a heck of a time this year. CMU, WMU and Ball State all look like better bets to win the West.
Barry Church is still one hell of a football player...I wonder if it's dawned on him that UT isn't going to join the Big East.

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
