Candidate for QB coach
Candidate for QB coach
BGSU alum and current Massillon Washington head coach Tom Stacy is a candidate for the vacant position on the coaching staff according to two area newspapers.

On the surface, this seems like a good fit. He's coached in the MAC (at Akron) and knows the fertile Northeast Ohio recruiting terrain. The Massillon people want to run the guy out of town after 3 winning seasons, but he's apparently good enough to also be considered a candidate to replace Ohio State QB coach Joe Daniels if he retires this year. Remember that Mick McCall was coaching at a big-time high school program in Denver two years before he came to BG.

Good finds, Joe. I live in Green and know they are still interested in Stacy. But I would much rather see him at BG! McVicker was a fine coach for Green and has built a pretty solid program in the Suburban League.
Those people in Massillon are never happy...that is an impossible situation cuz you can never win enough. They take the fun out of HS football.
They talk like Massillon is some powerhouse but it isn't. They haven't won a state title since 1972 and have NEVER won a state title since the playoffs began.
Thanks for the links!

So, more correctly, Massillon has never won a state championship.Falconfreak90 wrote:They talk like Massillon is some powerhouse but it isn't. They haven't won a state title since 1972 and have NEVER won a state title since the playoffs began.
Stacy got them as close as ever in his first season, and now three years later, they want to run him off. I've also heard some scuttlebutt connecting him with the opening at McKinley.

I find this kinda funny just for the fact that in one of my Sport Management classes we just finished watching the movie Go Tigers.Falconfreak90 wrote:Those people in Massillon are never happy...that is an impossible situation cuz you can never win enough. They take the fun out of HS football.![]()

I agree with you freak, hell I wouldn't mind seeing them go 0-10 every year

coming from out of state, freshmen year the kid next to me was from there and he had that video, and i was like, wow these people are crazy, like seriously, they are acting like they live and die with high school football. they do realize any joe schmo and play high school football dont they?? and the sick part was holding kids back in 8th grade so they are bigger when they are freshmen, i thought that part was terryfying. like the school people should be thrown in jail for that.
Tom Stacy won't be our QB coach.

He's staying in orange and black, but moving to a reasonable community and a good high school. Best of luck to Coach Stacy...as long as the Bulldogs aren't playing the Vikings.

Wow...that's kind of suprising. I don't recall being overly impressed by the QB play at Buffalo prior to Gill's arrival...outside of a really good DB they had around 2003 or so and really good punter, I don't recall being overly impressed by anything at Buffalo not named Turner Battle
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Man...that's a huge get if true.
Flipper's right about UB's futility, but he recruited all the talent that Turner Gill won with last year, including the QB. Hofher had him start as a true freshmen and they went through some growing pains, but now he's playing much better as an upperclassmen and that program is reaping the rewards.
He also ran a solid, winning Ivy League program at Cornell and has tutored QB's at places like North Carolina and Syracuse. His protege, Bill Lazor, is the newly minted quarterbacks coach of the Seattle Seahawks. He will have to learn the intricacies of the spread because Cornell and UB both ran pro-style systems.
