Terrible game vs Ferris
That was probably the most lethargic and uninterested I've seen the team all year. The 2nd period was so boring and terrible I could've taken a nap and not missed anything, except for the D leaving Eno out to dry 2 or 3 times. We weren't skating hard, we weren't passing well, our stickhandling was poor, and we weren't pressuring hardly at all in the 3rd period down a goal. Why are the defensemen and the center hanging back at the blue line all the time, even with the game on the line and us down a goal?!! Somebody go to the freaking net!
Man this game pissed me off.

Big problem I noticed is when we actually try to carry the puck into the zone. The last guy to the blueline is the one with the puck. All the forwards get to the blueline then have to wait for the puck to get across. They have no speed getting into the zone. The first, maybe even the second, guy to the blueline has to be the one with the puck. We have more than one gifted defenseman that is able to carry the puck up the ice. The problem is the forwards are standing around waiting for the puck to get there and then the other team has three or four steps on them when the puck is finally dumped. Hit the zone with speed and start winning the race for the puck.

Yeah, that's another thing. We were not able to win the puck down deep in the zone at all last night. Ferris was just getting there first, and as you said it might be because of our forwards having to slow up at the blue line for the puck to enter the zone. I do know that early on in the game we were called offsides a few times because the forwards were in ahead of the puck. (That's 100% inexcusable by the way)pdt1081 wrote:Big problem I noticed is when we actually try to carry the puck into the zone. The last guy to the blueline is the one with the puck. It was not a very good game in terms of execution or gameplanning. Hopefully we see better tonight. There's a part of me that says a loss tonight might mean a 4-game losing streak heading into the CCHA tournament seeing as we face Michigan State next week.

Would someone please explain to me why Russ Sinkewich is not playing.
He is 6' 4" 210 #. He won the speed skating competition at the intra squad game. He has not played a game at home since November.
I understand that he was recruited bY KP, and KP is now at Wisconsin.
I understand that every year every coach has to have a designated
sh..t - apon person. This keeps the other guys on their toes.
Sounds like what happened to Taylor Christy that was not good enough to play most of his Sophmore and Junior year, but played most of his Senior
year ( even though he was drafted by the Avelanche).
Next year will Russ : (1) play ever game (2) be cut from the squad (3) leave to play in the AHL ??
Schmidt is 6' 1", every other D-Man on next years team will be under 6 foot.
Bailen is 5' 11" Ian Ruel is 18 6' 200# but may be 2008 or 2009.

I'm sure the coaches have a reason for him not playing. If they don't wish to disclose to the public, that's their right, but I hope Russ at least knows.

Re: Terrible game vs Ferris
I almost did fall asleep listening during the 2nd period on the radio. The game had no flow and it sounds like we played with no intensity outside of maybe Whitmore, McIlrath & Cepis (as usual). I really wish just one year that we could have a solid D corps; guys who know their assignments and execute. We are sooo often caught out of position b/c of guys standing around and not being aware of what's going on around them. I wish we had guys who's names you *don't* hear, kind of like hodgson. He's not usually on the scoresheet, but does his job in his own end. How often have I heard "Schmidt/Maxwell/Krelove scrambles back to make the play?" Too often, and to boot they usually end up taking a penalty. (a la Mike Jones).bgsufalcon24 wrote:That was probably the most lethargic and uninterested I've seen the team all year. Speaking of Cepis.. he will probably end up like Alex Foster, play his butt off for two years and then jet to the pro's b/c the rest of his team only plays hard half the time.
Sorry for the negative tone of this post.. but last nights game really got me ticked off. Hopefully we can turn things around tonight. Go Falcons!

Our Powerplay is pathetic. With all the freshmen this season I thought our team would get better as the year went on. Instead, we started out the season great but have gotten worse. And we have really struggled at home all year. This team needs to get a win tonight. Show me something boys.

A revolving door of assistant coaches over the last 4 years makes for a mess. I would love to see KP back as the head coach of this team. As far as the power play, you would think someone could remember that Hodgson came to this team 3 years ago to run the PP and he was excellent his freshman year. Why is he sitting on the bench and has only 1 assist all year? What a joke. Sinkewich will play tonight. Once again, Mr. AD, please bring back KP!!!

pdt1081, Russ has asked why he is not playing, others have asked; no one knows. I agree, who do you take out. We have 8 good D-men. But Russ should not be the whipping boy. We won with him in there.
Heyman; Either KP, or Danton. Or as I have heard from many sources - make sure that Todd is still around at the end of next season and make Todd the head coach. $ 8 mil in the building and a new head coach - sounds like a plan. Player, parents and fans have said that Todd is the reason for our improvement.
Since when has a .500 season at BGSU been a good thing?
Other questions designed to stir the pot - have we gotten better as the year has gone along?
Who is the better strength and conditioning coach: Matt Messaros or Rick Court? Matt

I agree that Russ should not be the whipping boy. He is one of the few defensemen that will actually shoot the puck and get it on net. I saw three or four times Saturday where he shot around or through at least 2 defenders. Our situation with defensemen makes other coaches jealous. It's a heck of a place to be as a coach.Puckhead wrote:pdt1081, Russ has asked why he is not playing, others have asked; no one knows. I agree, who do you take out. We have 8 good D-men. No. But at the same time, I don't think we have gotten worse. We kept getting better up until about Christmas time, then we leveled off. Before Christmas we were never questioning the effort put forth on the ice. Something happened within the team and things changed. I think a lot of the first half of the season had to do with Unice leaving immediately after he got here. I was told that that happening is what brought this team together. They all had one thing in common, the hatred of him. Since then, I think we have slowly drifted apart as a team and it shows on the ice.Other questions designed to stir the pot - have we gotten better as the year has gone along?
Mike Ward. Hands down. He did more than just strength and conditioning for the team. I know for a fact that he even gave the pregame speech at least once. The team hasn't been the same since he took the job as assistant football coach.Who is the better strength and conditioning coach: Matt Messaros or Rick Court? Matt
