DD is now the head coach at his beloved IU! I would love to see him lead them to the final four!

Congrats to Dan, this of course is his dream job (well his second dream job, the first, being the coach of the Falcons
). I'm not very confident it will be permanent but who knows? I believe IU and its fans are going to want a proven winner to step in after this season. Or they might just settle for a coach who tries to do things the right way. But usually in the Big Ten it's not about doing things the right way it's about winning at all costs and not getting caught.

That would only prove just how much he was sandbagging the last few years here.OSUFALCON wrote:DD is now the head coach at his beloved IU! I would love to see him lead them to the final four!
24. Quality provider of the truth, for better or for worse.
From an AP article...
Senior captain D.J. White, guards Armon Bassett, Jordan Crawford and Jamarcus Ellis, and forwards DeAndre Thomas and Brandon McGee skipped Dakich’s first practice Friday afternoon. By Friday night’s scheduled walkthrough, Greenspan said most if not all of the missing players were back and he expects them to leave for Chicago with the rest of the team Saturday morning.

Maybe Dan called their mothers who in turn made the kids keep their scholarships and get back on the court!

Rumor is the kids were beat up over it Friday afternoon and given a pass on practice if they needed it. They held a players-only type meeting (then all left in white SUV's) and were laughing as they walked out of there.

Somehow, that doesn't shock me. I don't believe a DD lead IU will even sniff the Final Four, but thats just my opinion.

I really hope that these players can rally around Coach Dakich and keep playing the IU brand of basketball that they have been playing all season. If they are pissed about Sampson leaving, they should be pissed at Sampson. Players have too much power in NCAA basketball right now and it really is rather ridiculous. I understand why the players could be pissed, thinking they were coming to IU to play for Sampson but Dan Dakich can be a great basketball coach...if the players would just listen to him, put in the time, they will see great results. That is what the players he recruited to BG never saw...they didn't see the rewards that would come after the hard work was put in...plus, it seems things snow-balled following the injury to Germaine Fitch and Dakich couldn't get things under control after that. He has to move past the challenges and not let them determine his fate, all the way to his final press conference as BG's head coach. I think IU will be fine and I hope Dakich takes this team deep into the tournament.

I just heard Dakich on the radio for a press conference. He sounded great, witty, intelligent etc.. I hope and expect them to rally behind him go far into the tournament and then for him to be in the discussion for the HC job in the offseason but then take the top assistants spot to a Scott Skiles or someone similar with a bigger name.

Will this interim position lead him to another D-1 job?
I would think a Big Ten Championship and a deep run into March would bode well for him for another job if IU goes another direction.
I would hope IU would tell him straight out at the end of the year what their plans are. I'd hate to see Dan lose a good head coaching opportiunity because IU is still telling him he's in the mix for their job...only see if go to someone else later on.
