Bowling Green at Miami

Post by bgsufalcon24 »

This is a HUGE in-division battle that will most likely determine the #1 overall seed in the MAC tournament as first place is on the line Saturday between the Falcons and Redhawks. BG will look to avenge a 63-60 defeat at Anderson Arena back on January 22. Miami will look to win and drop the hammer on BG in the head-to-head for the year, a falcon victory would put them in the lead. (A third scenario would be Ohio coming from third place to win the division, which is still possible as well) Both teams are playing great basketball heading into this game as BG has won 5 straight games, Miami has won 4 in a row. BG stands 9-3 in conference with a 20-6 overall record.

GO BG! CRUSH THE REDHAWKS!

I'm drinking from my lucky Fricker's cup here, and listening to the Falcons really pull away from a physical rough game.. Current score is 72-62 with 2:23 left in the game.. Go BG!

Congrats to all the Falcons in that arena, the players, the fans, and especially Coach Miller with 145 career wins, 1st among BG coaches. This team continues to impress with 103 career wins for Whitney and Achter!

Final score of 81 to 66 for the win!! Fantastic job everyone!

Well done ladies........very well done!!!!!! And since I'm too lazy, anyone care to share what the rest of our season looks like and prognostication for expected finish? (who we should/could/must beat and where - would be great.)

I just have to say that a quote from a game summary made me feel rather warm and fuzzy inside..

"With the win, no Miami player will graduate with a victory over the Falcons in Millet Hall. "

Listening to the game, it certainly sounded like Chelsea Albert stepped up today. That could be a huge factor in the remaining games. Today seems to be the day that it all clicked for her. Her stat line was 9 pts, 7 rebounds (6 offensive), 3 assists, 0 turnovers, 1 steal and 1 block. I am guessing the points, rebounds and assists are all career highs.

The remaining schedule is as follows: at Ohio (Wed), home with Buffalo (Sat-senior day), at Akron (Wed).

There's only 3 games left. We're 21-6 and 10-3 in the MAC, alone at the top. Ohio, if they win today could move to within 1/2 game of us, setting up another big game Wednesday night in Athens.

Ohio - This game could be tough, but I expect the ladies to pull out a tough one like they did today.

Akron - The ladies could win this one by 50. This will be very ugly. Akron sucks the big one.

Buffalo - Buffalo isn't terrible, but a loss would be a bit surprising. We handled them pretty well earlier this year.

My guess is that we win out and stand 24-6 and 13-3 heading into the MAC tournament. If this is the case, we'd probably be on the NCAA bubble pending the results of the conference tournament. Unfortunately for us, our losses to Ball State and Western Michigan, especially WMU, will not reflect well on our chances to get in should we lose in the MAC tournament.

The Bowling Green crowd was AWESOME today at Miami. I would guess it at 300-500, and we had almost as many as Miami and were MUCH LOUDER. Millett is now offically called Anderson Arena South!!
We had a Miami pep band member make a special trip over to congratulate our crowd after the game, and tell us how impressed he was with the entire setting we put on. It was simply FABULOUS.
Way to go BG! :D

We aren't on the bubble in any scenario. In 2006 we were like 29-2 going into the NCAA's, and were promptly given a 12 seed with the auto bid. That low of a seed likely means we would've been left out of the tournament altogether had we lost in the MAC Tourney--after going unbeaten in the MAC regular season. While 21-6, 10-3 is an awesome accomplishment thus far with a team so young, and maybe Curt Miller's best coaching job because of the youth, with six losses we need to cut down the nets in Cleveland again to go dancing. I don't like it, but realistically that's the way it is.

And congratulations to Curt for becomming the all-time wins leader at BG. BG's had a couple great coaches so he's the best amongst elite company.

I see your point. However, the difference between then and now is that BG has name recognition after the run to the sweet 16 last year. Don't underestimate the importance of that.

We're not on the Bubble. Even if we win out, our RPI probably won't be too far north of 65ish. Our resume will not merit at-large consideration. Win and we're in.

Ohio did us a favor by losing today. If we can win in Athens, we'll pretty much lock in the #1 seed for the tourney. Even if we lose, I think we're in really good shape for a bye.

What is our RPI right now? I can't seem to find it anywhere.
