1 Jakubowski 6-2 180 So. Simms 6-1 180 Jr.
2 Moten 6-4 190 Sr. Clements 6-4 200 Sr. Brown 6-2 Fr.
3 Miller 6-4 240 Sr. Thomas 6-6 Fr
4 Knight 6-7 210 R-So. Marschall 6-7 235 Jr. Calhoun 6-7 Fr.
5 Larson 6-9 245 Jr. Polk 6-9 280 Jr. Madlock 6-8 200 So.
I think we are going to be very good next year. A year under Orrs system, 4 new bodies to add to the depth. EVERYONE returning. I expect leaps and bounds from JAKO, Madlock and Polk. A healthy Marschall will help out a ton, and some more depth will help us run more and be less conservative with POLK. Also, alot of the top players in the league are seniors.
09 should be interesting as well. Losing 2 big guards and our best player the last few years. I would say that 4/5 is now a strength.

We don't necessarily need a point guard on the floor for a full forty minutes per game. I don't see a problem with Miller, or possibly even Knight (if his offense comes around next year), running the offense for 10-15 minutes per game to give JoJak a blow. That said, I'm not sure what positions the incoming freshmen will be playing, so my point could very well be totally moot.

Actually I see he didn't forgot about Brown , he just had him buried amongst the other 2G's. I guess D.Brown could slide over to the 2 if needed but I'm not thinking that'll be needed but rather him being Jo Jak's backup at pg.Falconboy wrote:He may have forgot our incoming PG Dee Brown.VDub26Falcon wrote:Do you think that Simms will be the backup PG, or do we have someone coming in that could do that? I don't think Jo Jak will play 40 minutes a game and he's the only one you have listed at the 1.

Dee Brown is supposed to be a true PG, so I expect that he will split time with JoeJak at that position.Bleeding Orange wrote:We don't necessarily need a point guard on the floor for a full forty minutes per game. I'd really rather NOT see Miller running the offense, and I cannot even imagine what it'd be like to see Knight trying to run our offense. We've gone through stretches this year where we ran everything through Miller, and while he's had some good stretches he's been way too turnover prone in that role. He's much better used off the ball. I cannot even fathom how Knight could run the offense...he's not much of a dribble penetration guy from what I can tell. He'd be much better served in the post.
Personally I think this team DOES need a PG out there to run the offense, and I'm hopeful that Jakubowski & Dee Brown will be that PG for the bulk of the minutes next year. Darryl will probably still get some minutes at the point as well, if need be.

Hmmm.
Well from what I take Simms and Brown can and will both backup Jako in 09 plus we have 4 schollies that year so that should not be a problem. Simms can get the ball up the floor and thats all we need for 10-15 mins a game. Might not be ideal but thats all we need.
HammB I am curious where you heard or read or saw that Darnell was a true PG. Everything I have read has him as a Simms like combo guard
From the presser:
Brown, a 6-2 guard, is currently in his senior year at Country Day High School. He is the fourth-ranked senior point-guard in the state of Michigan, according to PrepSpotlight magazine. Brown, who can play both guard positions, helped Country Day win the Class B state title in 2006-07, scoring 22 points in a 66-61 victory over East Grand Rapids in the championship game. He led Country Day in scoring, with nearly 17 points per game, last season.
"Dee is a versatile combo guard, who will add toughness," said Orr. "He is multi-talented -- he can shoot it, he can pass it -- and is a tough competitor who can make plays from either the one or the two-guard position. He comes from a great program. Coach Kurt Keener and his Country Day teams have had great success, and they are the reigning state champion."
I have not seen him play and I think you can infer either or from that release.
I will have a scouting report on Scott Thomas early Saturday. Hopefully its not all....."Scott Thomas was blocked by BJ Mullins, Scott Thomas was dunked on by BJ Mullins" etc. From all I can ascertain Scott is the tallest guy on his team and likely will be giving up half a foot to Mullins should he be given the assignment to guard him.

My comment on Brown being a PG stems mostly from Polk's HS coach. We met him at the Eastern game and he told us that we were getting a good one in Brown and that he'd be able to come in and play the point for us. This stemmed from the fact that Miller was running the show for a lot of the time at Eastern and he was really struggling with turnovers that night. OP's coach had seen Brown play and thought they'd definitely help our PG situation.
Looking at Orr's comments that you posted though, it would appear that Brown would be able to play both positions, but given our lack of viable options at the PG spot, I'd expect to see him focus on that position.
