Therefore you old timers can say your lame go suck an egg. I will stick to can't read can't write. Last time I watched MSU was at the Ralph Englestad this October. Let's just say MSU dropped a goose egg 6-0 loss. GO BG!!!
Old timers? I'm only 25, does that make me one because I can remember when Section A and Section H used to go back and forth with the "Go green, go white, GO SUCK AN EGG!" chant. I also remember Section A and Section E going back and forth with BG-SU! Oh, those were the days. ;-)
No that makes you experienced--- you did begin your hockey watching when you were a child right? Plus I think you worked for the team 4 awhile right? Can't read Can't write cheer goes with KSU who hasn't had a hockey team for quite a while. BUT -------cheer what makes you feel part of the fandom that is BG. Like Falcon Freak says if you want quiet go to the library, don't tell me to shut up!!!!! 'cause it just gets louder. :D

Sometimes being an oldtimer isn't all bad! :D And just remember, one of these days in the not too distant future, you will be an oldtimer too. :P

Kent had a hockey team? When did that go under? Were they in the CCHA? Assuming that they're now defunct, can I assume they typically had a less than stellar history? Thanks for helping out this 25 year-old who started following BG in 2000.

They had a hockey team until about 1994 or so, and yes, they were in the CCHA. Illinois-Chicago also had a team in the CCHA at that time, but they folded around '97 or '98. But yeah, I don't think either had all that great of a history, and definitely not one as storied as BG's (which probably has kept the Falcons from finding a similar fate, as has been discussed)

The "Go Suck An Egg" goes back to the late 70's. Some obnoxious SOB on the front row got tired of the "Go Green - Go White"
and yelled out the "Go Suck An Egg". No good idea why this came out, but it stuck.
Yes back in the days we played Kent and Ill Chicago. Back then we beat them 9 - 1, playing SUNY Buffalo and Ohio U. was also fun.
We also beat the Goaldiggers in 1978.

Tony,
I know you're the BG history expert...but I don't recall that KSU ever got into the CCHA. Saw them play a few times when my son was still playing hockey at the "midget" level...got the name for my boat (TRUE BLUE) from one of their banners so it had to be around 1986 at that time. If they DID get into the CCHA it must've been after that...and I seem to recall some sort of "scandal" that ended their program...could be wrong on that though.

After reading up, they were only part of the CCHA for two seasons, 1992-93 and 93-94. That coincided with my freshman and sophomore years, so that's how I knew.

The only thing I remember about them shutting down is Quinn Fair came to play at BG. Other than that, Kent State isn't all that important to me. :-D

In the 70's, wasn't "Go Suck an Egg" the 2000's equivalent of "Go F**k Yourself?"

There was also a time when Notre Dame was a part of the CCHA, then didn't have a team, then they became part of the CCHA again. I remember attending their last game in 1983. After Section A sang the "M-I-C-K-E-Y MOUSE, why because we swept you" song, they then sang the Notre Dame fight song. Very cool. Just a little bit more CCHA/BG history from an "oldtimer" :D

My favourite CCHA moment was in 1997 when Ferris State hosted the Sioux. Jason Blake was playing for UND and remember how loud the FSU fans chirped him. Thats when i finally gave some respect to the CCHA. Our conference is now the second best in the entire nation. Let's be proud that our Falcons are in the top half of the second best conference.

There is a little bar in the bottom of one of the Dorms next to the M.A.C. Center (the Rathskellar, maybe?) that has a framed Kent hockey sweater with a CCHA patch on the shoulder. The first time I saw it I never even knew they had ever had a hockey program, and I thought it was some sort of joke. Despite the colors (yucky), it wasn't a bad looking sweater as I recall.

I'm still digging, but there was a player who joined BG after KSU disbanded...
