I personally am not a fan of chants nor bands at hockey games. Orchestrated chants are usually dull and boring. Chirpping actually gets into the players mind. Trust me I would always get pissed when I heard my name then is a(n) fill in your derogative comment. The its all your fault, and the synchronized cheers never get you off your game. You hear it and just think to yourself...wow are we now at a cheerleading convention or a HOCKEY GAME!
While I can't claim to know from too much playing experience, it seems to me that a really good, really clever taunt would get in my head more than someone just swearing at me.

I've been to a lot of games - home and away - and pretty much the only constant is people in the crowd who think they're hard-asses swearing at the players. Seems to me you'd get used to that and learn to ignore it.

I'll admit that some of the coordinated chants like "it's all your fault" and "high-school ref" seem pretty dumb, but if you were to get something clever, I think it would be much better.

Not to sound pessimistic, but the problem here is that we first have to sweep someone, and do it at home.

In the past four years, we've swept exactly seven teams at home, and that includes a handful of home-home series where we played at WMU, OSU or Wayne St. on the first night. For the record, these sweeps have come against UAF, WMU (thrice), Wayne St. UNO, and Ohio State.

With continued success as the team has showed this year, hopefully sweeps will become more common.

Gee, didn't we sweep Ferris earlier this year? Granted it was on the road, but it was still a sweep.

If we continue to improve in the next few years, the more home sweeps we'll see.

As you alluded to, I'm ONLY counting series that we swept entirely at home, or with the second game of the series at home. This is because for the purposes of organizing large amounts of fans to do the MICKEY cheer, you're probably not going to have that happen on the road.

Oh, it's happened on the road, trust me. You might be surprised how many of us travel several times a year (and some to all of the road games). We get some decent numbers at away games. Since my son has now finished his HS hockey career, FF and I plan on going to quite a few more in the coming seasons.

Bartenders and wait staff from all over the midwest should consider this their first and final warning.

You know, you shouldn't be talking about FF like this. She's very sensitive and you might just hurt her feelings. :smt010

Some great bulletin board material from USCHO:
The Girl Reporter All-Goon Squad

The Bowling Green Falcons

It’s unusual to name an entire squad to the goon squad, but I’m calling it like I see it. The Falcons are tough, hard-working, they take the body whenever they can, and they — ahem — “use their sticks” more creatively than any team I’ve seen in ages.

They’re third in the nation in PIMs per game, averaging 19.6. Yes, the numbers are inflated because of the brawl with Western Michigan Jan. 18.

Yes, the Falcons were absolutely in that fight.
Falcons, Wildcats, Bulldogs…and Mavericks

BGSU, NMU, and FSU each have home-and-home series to end the regular season. The Falcons play Michigan State, the Bulldogs play Michigan, and the Wildcats play Lake Superior.

Last year, the Falcons and Spartans exchanged a pair of wins in each other’s buildings to end the regular season, so the Falcons know they can win in Munn. Consistency has been the big problem for the Falcons last season and this, but this year BG has more wins to show for effort and better goaltending thanks to Brian Eno.

However, of the four teams hosting the first round of the CCHA playoffs, I think Bowling Green is the most beatable; should BG win its first-round playoff series, I don’t expect it to win beyond that.
Weston has always had a bias towards Miami and OSU, but this is ridiculous.

From a "league" reporter who openly admits she rarely attends a game outside of the Schott.

Me too. Her columns are a waste of space. I got tired of reading about her personal issues that she constantly inserts into her weekly "league"
articles, instead of just talking about the games. :smt078
