While I can't claim to know from too much playing experience, it seems to me that a really good, really clever taunt would get in my head more than someone just swearing at me.PegCityFalcon wrote:Growing up watching and playing hockey my whole life, I can honestly say the best chirrping is swearing at guys. A lot of these old 2A chants are lame. I personally am not a fan of chants nor bands at hockey games. Orchestrated chants are usually dull and boring. Chirpping actually gets into the players mind. Trust me I would always get pissed when I heard my name then is a(n) fill in your derogative comment. The its all your fault, and the synchronized cheers never get you off your game. You hear it and just think to yourself...wow are we now at a cheerleading convention or a HOCKEY GAME!
I've been to a lot of games - home and away - and pretty much the only constant is people in the crowd who think they're hard-asses swearing at the players. Seems to me you'd get used to that and learn to ignore it.
I'll admit that some of the coordinated chants like "it's all your fault" and "high-school ref" seem pretty dumb, but if you were to get something clever, I think it would be much better.
