You mean she never had surgery in the first place? Thats odd. Thought that just came with the territory. Dang, now she has to get it done. I would think she'd be good for next season though.Tricky_Falcon wrote:At the beginning of the season she was told that she could either sit out the season and have surgery or take a cortisone shot. She opted for the shot and apparently its no longer doing the trick. I don't know but it sounds like surgery is the way to go.

She doesn't have cartilage in her knee anymore. The plan from what I have heard is to drill into her knee and somehow that spurs growth for new cartilage. I'm not a doctor so I don't know. It was her choice at the beginning of the season to have surgery and sit another season or take the shot and mask the pain.

Ouch. It sounds like she has a similar problem as mine. I damaged my cartilage as a result of patellar displacement, and it is not fun. Anytime you put anything more than "walking" weight on it, it gets extremely painful. When you slip, or plant directly on the affected leg, the pain is absolutely blinding. What sucks is that there really isn't much that they can do outside of drilling holes in the cartilage to promote new growth (it fills in the holes on it's own, I'm told), but you can be in a cast for as long as two to three months as a result. It really stinks that this has happened to Sarah in the prime of her collegiate career. I hope that something can work out for her so she can get out there and do what she loves again soon!Tricky_Falcon wrote:She doesn't have cartilage in her knee anymore. Also, not a doctor here, but that sounds a lot like Microfracture surgery (see Terrel Davis, Chris Weber, Amare Stoudamire, Penny Hardaway, Allan Houston, and BG's own Erik Marschall). Look it up on the greatest source of all time wikipedia, lays it out pretty straight forward and in plain englishTricky_Falcon wrote:She doesn't have cartilage in her knee anymore. If thats the case, its a pretty harsh recovery
