Omar Jacobs Sighting

Post by BGDrew »

Florence Phantoms Vice President of Operations Bennie King is proud to announce the signing of former College All American and NFL player Omar Jacobs.Jacobs (6’4, 232) played collegiately at Bowling Green University where he was considered one of the top quarterbacks in the nation. During Jacobs sophomore year he put together one of college footballs finest seasons at the quarterback position.
The Florence Phantoms play in the American Indoor Football Association (AIFA).

Also on the Phantom's roster is former Falcon Brian Gardner. You might remember that Keon Newson plays for the Columbus (GA) Lions (also of the AIFA).

Honestly, this is what Omar needs. Get a couple of seasons under his belt, work under center a bunch, and show the NFL that he can do it. Then some team may come calling again.

I highly doubt the NFL is scouting the American Indoor Football Association. It's subservient to AF2, which is the minor league to the actual Arena Football League. And how many guys make viable NFL careers out of the Arena Football League? A few do, but not many. Omar was a great college player, and an all-time BG great, but his NFL ship has sailed. I'm glad he'll be playing football, but if he plays on a field bigger than 50 yards again, it will be in Canada. Good luck Omar.

Well hey, stranger things have happened. Perhaps he'll get picked up in Canada, and eventually make it into a back-up roll in the NFL. He's just too talented to only play in this rinky-dink league.

Physically, yes he's way too talented for this league.

Unfortunately it is adamantly clear that he has not shown the mental capacity for the NFL game. He must not have impressed anyone in pre-draft interviews because his draft stock dropped, and we all know that he has the physical tools. Then he comes out and says he's struggling to learn the NFL playbook during his first training camp, and he gets cut when Pittsburgh could've used another QB. Then he's struggled to latch on anywhere else as well.

I wish the best for him, but his road to the NFL is going to be pretty long and tough to travel.

I always thought Omar would make a great indoor QB. See WR, throw ball. Get rid of it fast...be accurate and he won't need to have a cannon for an arm.
