The Scott Thomas Experience

I had the opportunity to see Scott Thomas play in the HS playoffs tonight against Canal Winchester and BJ Mullens. The experience was great as I had never been to the Coliseum at the fairgrounds prior and I had not been to a HS game in 3 years. It was an interesting place for a basketball game and I am sure to go back some time this week again

As for the 2 main attractions.

BJ Mullins was as advertised. For those of you that dont know he is a 7-1 McDonalds all american headed to tOSU. He has great feet and is very athletic for a man his size. Had a nice sky hook a couple of times but it was really hard to judge how good he can actually be. Thomas's team played zone and he was boxed in quite a bit by 2 or 3 guys. He also had over a half a foot on the tallest guy from Buckeye Valley at 6-5.

Scott Thomas was solid as well but I don't think he will ever be spectacular. He is a complete player and extraordinary when it comes to fundamentals. He has a great shot can handle the ball a bit and wasn't bad on defense. Problem is he is not a great athlete and struggled to get open shots throughout the game. When he got them he knocked them down. He got two early fouls and was taken out with 4 minutes to go in the first quarter but played smart the rest of the game and never fouled out. He was the main ball handler for his team but this was almost as default, we won't want him handling the ball here often, although he wont ever hurt us doing so in the half court. Overall I would put him somewhere between Reimold and Cory Ryan. I think he will help us immediately next year because he won't make mistakes on offense and he will immediately be our second best shooter. He will be at his best next to a guy like Clements, a big quick guard. He will also be at his best as the 2nd or better yet 3rd option for the offense.

Overall I think he is a great addition to the Falcon Family He may never vy for MAC POY but he also wont be a liability in any aspect. I think that he is so well rounded that you will find he will quickly be one of your favorite falcon players and he will be a mainstay in the lineup from day one and a leader in a year or 2. He would look very good sandwiched between Knight and a solid big defensive guard.

A sidenote. One time Mullens hit the floor and Scott offered a hand to help him up, Mullens slapped it away.

Another sidenote, I believe we sat directly behind one of the players parents. Hint I dont like the school that player is going to. This players mother was the rudest parent I have ever heard. She was singling out players on the opponents team and yelling at them. It was embarassing. Based off the behavior of that family I think the player will absolutely be one and done at the institution they will be playing basketball at, if they can even qualify academically.

Needless to say I'm a little disappointed that Thomas is between Reimold and Cory Ryan as far athleticism goes. I was hoping for a much more athletic playaer, but at 6'7 hopefully he'll be at least as good as a shooter as Reimold was.

He is only 6-5 at best.

You're incorrect - Scott is 6'7". I respect your comments, but I've watched Scott play for over four years and I believe he will be spectacular.

You seem to have a very unbiased opinion.

If Scott Thomas is 6-7 then Buckeye Valley has 3 guys 6-7 and above. That might be possible but I see it as unlikely

I am not even 100% sure I think Scott was the best player on his own team.

I stand by what I say and I will bet you $10 that in 4 years Scott is a steady contributor but not spectacular. I dont think he will hurt us anywhere, with the exception of maybe defense, but I dont think he will be anything but a dynamic glue/utility guy at the 2 and 3.

I hope I am wrong on him and he is spectacular. IMO if I am erring I am doing so on the positive and not the negative.

I can respect what both of you are trying to say and made understood. However, I find it curious that we are evaluating the prospects of anyone's four year COLLEGE career after watching ONE HIGH SCHOOL GAME.

I watched the Eastern Illinois game and I believe that Scott was a visitor with his family. Coach Orr and the players were celebrating and being approached by spectators on the floor and being congratulated. A gentlemen who very much looked like Scott and his parents, I would assume, approached Coach Orr to a warm greeting and they had a discussion.

From everything I've ever read, Coach Orr is in the 6-8/6-9 range and if that was Scott and his family, he is every bit of 6-6 or 6-7 at the very least.

What do you think Coach Orr is doing when he recruits these guys? He projects what that player will be like over four years based off the evidence before him. You are certainly correct that I have a much smaller amount of information to work with, but I was just presenting what I had. Of course I could be wrong. Of course its a small amount of evidence, why not just take it for what its worth.

As far as his height goes he is listed on the Roster as 6-5 and is the tallest player on his team tied with 2 other players. He was shorter than both those other players by a very slight amount. Coach Orr slouches too. If he is 6-7 then those other 2 players are 6-7/6-8 which is a possibility, and people do do odd things with their heights on listed rosters. I was 6-1 I think my entire career. But they generally go up and not down. What happened to our 6-7 Forward from Europe?

Scotts a white kid with dark blonde/light brown hair, thin but not netteresque and should be able to put on more weight, if that helps you recognize him.

Me or him? Because if it was me I dont remember but its possible, but for whatever reason I love big men and tend to give them the benefit of the doubt in terms of ability over size.

And i just realized I typed I love big men but its too humorous to take out.

Obviously you have only watched one Buckeye Valley game. Yes, BV had a lot of great players this season but Scott was the leader of the team and the best all around player on the team. He was also just named (yesterday) the player of the year for Delaware County. This is the third year in a row he has been named player of the year.
