Coach Paluch......
Ok we've had many Gregg Brandon threads in the football forum that are too numerous to mention. Interesting how there's very little Paluch threads as to what he's done for the program and how many view his progress here. So I ask all of you , has Paluch done enough for the hockey program after 6 seasons? Does he need still more time to recruit more of the good players needed to bring this program back to the top? I don't know when Paluch contract runs out but these are just some questions I'd put out there for discussion.
Mid-2000's Anderson Animal
Scott Paluch took over a program that had seen an absolute plummet from it's previous heights. He's had to fight one of the smallest budgets in the CCHA, an archaic arena, unfair comparisons to Coach York, immature players, and an overall lack of support from the BG community.
Given all of this, he has the ability to do something tonight that we haven't done since the 2000-2001 season: win a CCHA playoff round.

Eh, I know why Falconboy did it. But I think it's also important to remember where we were supposed to finish this year and how successful our freshmen have been this year. You don't get that kind of production out of young guys without good coaching. Whether it be Paluch or the combo of Stretch and Doug, this has been a better season than we all could have imagined. We're also seeing the maturing of Pooch as a coach as well.

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Remember Bigdog is Ryan Barnett, he was a former Falcon who played a couple years back. He was a kind of a slow forward that really didnt have great hands. Pooch didnt dress him that often so I guess he comes on here once and awhile to stir things up.
As one of you mentioned those were the years when we had all the off ice problems down at Ziggys with players boozing during the week etc. I really have to give credit for at least making the team more respectable in the eyes of the community. It will still take time though because it was only 3 years ago that we had the hazing picture surface with the racial slur written on a naked player that was passed out.
Give Pooch some credit

Yep those were the days when their motto was win or lose, we still booze. I am no longer a student, so I don't know how it is now. Dakich had a rule that his players weren't allowed to step foot in the bars, atleast during the season.dannyk wrote: As one of you mentioned those were the years when we had all the off ice problems down at Ziggys with players boozing during the week etc. I really have to give credit for at least making the team more respectable in the eyes of the community. Yes it seemed to be a good rule. (No bars during the season) I have never seen a BG hoops player at a bar during the season. What often made me upset was when I would see hockey players going all out on a Wed night, and then seeing that they got swept at home that weekend. Some of that stuff was just mind boggeling to a fan. Top programs dont have players throwing down shots and stealing bicycles outside Taco Bell during the season on week nights. I have a feeling that the only night you might see a WCHA player throwing down some pops is after a Saturday night home win.
If the hockey team gets swept at home they should be back in the film room on Sunday not out on the town.

If you all think that group of players were the ONLY ones who drank or partied during their playing days, you are fooling yourselves.
I'm sorry, I have read here and held my tounge long enough, but I just can't get past the double standards around here and in the arena. Bigdog and the rest that post here are former Falcons, who we ALL rooted for during their playing days and now that they are stating an opinion different than what some feel, they are villified. That's plain bull! We're all aware of who "Bigdog" is...and frankly, I don't know the kid, but I do know that he played his role on the team during the time he was here...he was on a checking line, he wasn't in the position to be a "goal scorer." As I remember it he also battled some serious back injuries and mono during his time here, does that make him a horrible player?
I've said from the beginning that the former players may not have gone about stating their opinions in the correct or most mature manner, but that does NOT discount what they are saying. Chris Pedota's speech a few years ago, should've been a wakeup call to a LOT of people...
What I think that people around here are failing to realize is that EVERYONE is entitiled to their own opinion. From the players (CURRENT and former), to the fans (those of us who have been around for 30 years to those in their first season of watching), to the parents and even the coaching staff. Everyone's opinion is going to be colored in some way by what they know or think that they know, but in the end, all of our opinions don't really matter. We can thank Paul Krebs for that. We're stuck with Paluch for at least another year, unless the AD comes up with like 100K to do something about it.
And I know that some of the fans on this board are not going to like what I've said here and will try to villify me in the same way they have the former players, but that's fine, they are as entitled to their opinion as I am to mine.
GO FALCONS!

What did Pedota say in his speech?
I agree everyone will have their own opinions. In the case of Barnett though I would think that most would agree he did not have a good career (due to illness or what have you) He can still voice his objection to the coaching staff, that is his right but its also similar to giving a prof horrible reviews when you get a bad grade in the class. Maybe the prof was bad or maybe you should have studied harder.

These players described the members of this board as "retarted", "stupid", and "ignorant." They used this forum as a pulpit for their acidic hatred for the coach. If anyone supported the coach, they were attacked. When called to task as to what, as fans, we should do to help remove the coach, their answer was to stop supporting the team. That wasn't going to happen with the fans who are members of this board. Their efforts, in my view, were illogical - but who am I?
I don't want to say that their being "vilified" is just, but as a fan, it's understandable.

Pedota read the riot act to the coaches about playing favorites, being easy on some people while others were treated differently. He told them they didn't know how to coach, were two-faced and numerous other things I can't remember @ the moment. Since then Seniors have been denied access to the mike @ the banquet. When Pedota was speaking the coaches united as a group where previously they had been in separate areas of the ballroom. safety in #'s. & if looks could kill I didn't expect anyone to ever call them on stuff but Pedota felt he had nothing to lose. I think he then went on to play for Toledo or Peoria for @ least 1 yr. IMO he was entitled to his he lived itdannyk wrote:What did Pedota say in his speech?

Its just now taking hold, and not to worry hes not going anywhere, and will likely get nice extension. Hes a good coach with a good coaching crew and a good team of players who understand this style of hockey. Yea sure the team stumbles at times, but seriously we were dead last season, after a season plagued with illness and injury, we have a fast agresive young team and great new recruits. We finsihed higher than anyone here save myself and a few others saw possible. the team has exceeded expectations this year and next year a repeat will meet expectations. dont rush to judgment, yet. lets watch next season.
