BG with two more tough losses today...6-5 to Lipscomb (BG lost to Lipscomb by one run in the Chattanooga tourney) and 3-1 to host Auburn.

Tomorrow, the Falcons will play Tenn Tech and Georgia Southern.

I can't help but analyze games by box scores. I've done it all my life and baseball/softball more than any other sport allows that. Lipscomb game was obviously lost in fielding. (5 more errors on top of the 14 previous for the season). Falcons had a bit more hitting but there are significant holes in the batting order. Still, this game likely should have been won.

Auburn game looks like it was well played against an SEC foe. Hope that bodes well for improvement.

Another thing to consider is their opponents this weekend have already played 20 or more games and have likely been practicing outside for a while.

Falcons drop two more in AL...

Post by Falconfreak90 »

BG lost a tough 1-0 game to Tenn Tech and then was blanked by Ga. Southern, 7-0, at the War Eagle Classic in Auburn.

BG falls to 0-9 on the year and Ga So. is now 17-13. They have played 30 game so far this year!

Next weekend, BG travels to Deland, Fl, for the Stetson U Tournament. The Falcons will face Elon, Stetson, Iowa and Mich State twice.

Yes our opponets have played more games and we haven't but at nine games there is a big enough sample to note a trend. We are only getting hitting production from the top 4 hitters in the lineup. The rest of the roster is batting .097 with an OBP of .172. That equates to a lot of 3 up 3 down innings and probably only is equivalent to at best 3 base runners per game from the bottom half plus of the order including the power #5 spot. Weimer is pitching well but both other pitchers have a +300 BA against them. Basically a very young team that has had only one freshman(Lines) contribute offensively. Remember we played a lot and beat a lot of southern teams last year in the same number of game circumstances.

As an aside the BGSUFalcons website had this rather optimistic headline for the Ga. Southern game "Eagles Edge Out Falcons, 7-0." I usally do not consider a 7-0 whitewash an edging.

Agreed, fred. The trends are there and hopefully the young players start to step up...

The Falcons return eight letter winners, including four All-MAC selections from the 2007 BGSU softball team, which posted a 33-12 record last season, the highest winning percentage in BG softball history. 0-9 start unacceptable.

Wait until M.A.C. play starts. The only sport BG fans can expect serious OOC play from is the WBB team. They may be 0-9 now, but they may not lose a single M.A.C. game. That is just the way of our conference.

I appreciate your optimism but I am doubtful we will our divison let alone go undefeated. Our OOC schedule thus far was not like playing Az, Oklahoma, Texas and UCLA. We lost to David Lipscomb, Saint Francis (PA), Tennessee Tech, Georgia Southern, and E. Tennessee. Hardly a line up that you would think a potential MAC champ would lose to. In fact Ball State had two wins against Lipscomb and one against E. Tenn in the same tourneys. The only excuse I see we have is a number of young players in the early part of the season. Development, however, has to be very rapid to reach your goals.

I think some of our coaches use the early OOC games more for development than a win/loss record. They have to find out who can play or often times, let upperclassmen play them selves out of a position, to determine who they will go with once the MAC season starts.
