Agreed Flip, however, if you look at the rest of our players, I think they fit the mold of a 3-4 defense a little better. Again, this wasn't my thinking, but Option mentioned it and had me thinking. A lot of our DTs could play DE for a 3-4 which likes a larger DE, and I think some of our DEs would fit the mold of a 3-4 OLB who could rush the passer. I'm not an expert on the 3-4, nor am I really a fan of it, but it was just something to think about.

I agree with 1987 though re: asking our CBs to cover one-on-one. I have said all season that I think our defensive philosophies put our players in a position to fail rather than succeed way too often. Again, these are just my observations, and with our defensive struggles I think its fair to ask why.

I like our scheme with four down linemen ... as long as we commit to playing a more disruptive style as described - linemen don't eat blocks, they exploit gaps; LBs don't read and react, they attack; DBs utilize a variety of coverage schemes.

I think it works when executed properly and we have the right athletes for it.

Unfortunately, our defense wasn't as good as it could have been this year. It was solid, but not championship level.

Flip,
That pass Grad throws to the TE is a GREAT play. UT uses TE's better than anyone in the MAC.

And I agree with hammb about our tackling. It hasn't been very good all year and teams like UT and BG thrive on open field play. You better wrap people up or get smoked. Hammb brings very valid points about our defense to the table. I am disappointed in our D this year. The kids busted their butts but some of the defensive calls are puzzling.

We had UT on the ropes....should have never let the boot off the throat.
